Went over to a friend’s place on Tuesday night and we cooked Japanese Oyako Don (chicken & egg on rice). Or rather.. I kinda hung around and watched π It turned out brilliantly! I guess having the proper ingredients like Mirin and whatever really do make a difference.. Must try it at home. It was served with some KangKong Veggies in Sweet Chilli and also some Japanese Unagi (eel). DELISH π A meal like that would’ve cost at least $20pp in a restaurant here, but ours worked out to waaay less than half that!
Heya, yeah I did back here (http://beverly.livejournal.com/526788.html) so it may have been then? I’m trying to get a more managable Friends list size so I’m keeping it to just people I speak to pretty often! π

That chicken looks so good! I could really go for that right now and it’s only 10:30am!
The taste was just brilliant and spot-on.. I’m envious, I want to be able to cook Japanese like that too!

big unagi!!!!!!!!!! *YUMS*
We shared it since it was too big for one person considering the other food we had. I’m going to look for it when I’m next out grocery shopping – it was yum π
next time its your turn to cook for her! π
mm..I love Oyako Don!! Oyako means Parent and son, which refer to chicken and egg! π hehe..
I love Unagi so much but it is hella expensive in Denmark!
Oh I didnt’ know that, thanks for sharing!
The Unagi we had was the frozen kind, just pop into the microwave, and that big one was just $5! It’s the exact one that restaurants serve here too
Oyako Don
Hi, do you mind sharing the recipe for the Oyako Don? It looks so yummy!
Thanks,
Jane
Re: Oyako Don
