One of my favourite el cheapo places, Golden Rooster – a trip to SG is never complete without it 😉 Every single thing on their meny is tasty and cheap, and they have a bunch of daily specials which never fail to impress. I’m always a sucker for their Lemon Chicken & Rice, but this time, we decided to try other things instead.
Had the Mee Siam which came with more gravy than expected. But the gravy was just sour enough and it also came with pieces of Yiu Tiao (deep-fried dough sticks) floating around, plus a hard-boiled egg covered in sambal chilli and a perky looking lime. It was delicious! Really satisfying and one of the best Mee Siams I’ve had (my other favourite is at the Marina food court).
One of their Daily Specials was the Sweet & Sour Fish with Rice. I’d expected fish slices, so was delighted when it was actually deep-fried, fish & chips style. The fish was meaty and the batter was just perfect. It was like Asian fish & chips, just brilliant! The dollop of stewed vegetables don’t look particular appetising in the photo, but I really loved them – they were slightly salty and soft in texture. Mmmmm.. All washed down with a cup of fab Chin Chow drink, which came totally chockers with the jelly!
