Crystal Jade Golden Palace
Paragon Mall
Singapore
$$$$$

Crystal Jade is allll over Singapore, and one of the most well-known restaurants in the country. On my last night there, the newlyweds treated us to a dinner at Crystal Jade Golden Palace, which my cousin pointed out, is “the upper class one”. I was kinda dubious since I didn’t even know it existed, and thought it was just a slightly nicer version of the generic Crystal Jade. But it is really, really different. Very ritzy with impressive high ceilings and plush chairs/couches.

Being a Chinese restaurant, it’s a little startling to see the dark European-style interior in red, black and gold. Most noticably though, was the temperature. We all took in a sharp breath when we walked through the ‘walkway’ into the main area of the restaurant – it was freezing! Very bizzare since it was to the point of making us feel quite ill. I can’t quite understand why they do that? Service was polite and prompt.. at one point, I picked up the teapot to pour tea for myself and my cousin, and was promptly shsddd’d away by the waitress, who hurriedly took the pot from me and poured the tea herself πŸ˜›

The couple ordered for the table.. and either they really know my taste, or I’m just really greedy and like everything.. because I thought everything was terrific :)~ It does cost 23623563243256x more than the normal Crystal Jade restaurants, but WOW it’s worth it! I’m a bit annoyed I didn’t even know it existed before this.. argh. Thanks for the dinner guys!

The interior

Silver-decorated chopsticks

Smile!

Wee tea cups to whet our appetite before the meal

Assorted soups: Herbal Soup, Pig Intestine Soup, Hot & Sour Soup, Crab Meat Soup
All the soups were terrific! The Herbal one was my fave

Goose Web with Tofu – I didn’t have this.. a bit too scary for me

Braised Goose – oooh this was tender and moist and delicious!

Peking Duck – I asked them to show it to us so I could take a pic of it. SO SCARY!!!!!

A slice of crispy Peking Duck skin in a small crepe.. it looks much more normal like this

Bamboo Clam with Garlic and Vermicelli – I really really really liked this :)~

Baked Prawns with Salted Egg Yolk – OMG this was insanely good, and I don’t
even normally like egg yolk!!

Braised Ribs – meltingly soft, this delivered a mega flavour punch. Mmm!!

Veggies – so boring :X Didn’t have any

Crispy Noodles with Duck – this was fab!! I was already
full but still gobbled the whole bowl down πŸ˜›

Assorted desserts: Durian Pudding, Or Nee (yam paste), Mango Pudding, Gui Ling Go

Deep-Fried Taro rolled in Sugar. Mmmm!!!

Anyway I flew back into Sydney yesterday so this is the last of my SG foodie escapades for awhile. It’s been a great 3+ weeks but I’m also glad to be back and doing my regular daily routine πŸ™‚

I really like those chopsticks!! I want a pair!!

And classy Chinese restaurants are great. The ones in China are just so amazing, each try to out-cook/invent eachother with their food! *slobbers*

i love those tea they served in the tiny teacups cos it’s usually very bitter tea.

i love peking duck too! though i must say the head in this pic looks disturbing.

Hehe! When I look back at my posts sometimes I start craving that food too.. that’s why I tend to give so many restaurants repeat business πŸ˜›

I never eat this kinda stuff in AU so it’s really nice to have all this whilst I’m in SG! But I’m glad I’m back too πŸ™‚
