FOOD, Food reviews, Uncategorized NIGHT NOODLE MARKETS 20 October 2006

The Night Noodle Markets run for the first 3 weeks of October, in celebration of Good Food Month (aka. “in celebration of Bev’s birthday”). For some insane reason, I hadn’t gotten a chance to make a visit earlier, since I insist on being there early – can’t stand the crazy queues and shoving people. Finally managed to find some time to pay a visit, on it’s second-last night. It was close! πŸ˜‰

There were around 30 stalls I believe, mostly Asian but a few Fusion and Western-ish style food. Mainly a lot of Thai. I wasn’t terribly excited by it all.. the food just looked rather standard to me – all incredibly oily/deep-fried/unhealthy and nothing special that you wouldn’t find in a food court. Still, I was keen to try a few bits and bobs out and it turned out pretty well. A shame we weren’t terribly hungry, or we would’ve tried out a lot more dishes!

Night Noodle Markets

Indonesian Murtabak (minced beef & onion in a crisp pastry)

Wagamama Sweet Potato Kusabi (handcut chips with Thai basil & wasabi mayonnaise)

Food, glorious food!

Aww I wish Singapore had these sort of “Good Food Month” or something.. Our normal food festivals are always the same old πŸ˜€

That Kusabi looks delish! You’re so lucky to live in Sydney where there’s cool food festivals… we don’t have anything like that here.

Ha, I had dinner with some girlfriends tonight at Wagamama (one near Wynyard) and I ordered the Sweet Potato Kusabi! They were delish. Loved the mayo, I scooped out the rest and put it on my Yaki Udon!

Ooo which is the Wagamama near Wynyard? Is it the one with Kinokuniya book store above it? I have a few vouchers for Wagamama (they gave ’em to me when we bought from the stall last night) so keen to find a branch near me.

I love their ramen – massive bowls and so yum!

It was the one at 38 Bridge Street. I prefer the one at Kinokuniya though, the atmos is nicer and my Yaki Udon was yummier when I had it there a few weeks back!

Oh wow! I went last night too.. I had been meaning to go for ages.

Yeah the food wasn’t that amazing, but we had some of the mini dutch pancakes.. yummy!!

We didn’t eat as much as we wanted to because we had a friend’s bday thing to go to.. aww..

Did you check out the Art and About exhibition alongside it?

So strange, TONS of people I know went last night (as in, around 10 or so), but we never did notice/see each other!

We saw the exhibition but Chris and I aren’t the kind of people that appreciate art, so we were like “Eh, what are those wierd things there?” and walked on πŸ˜›

I know!! even though it was Indonesians making it, they ‘westernise’ it.. most Asian food here is like that, it’s disappointing πŸ™ That’s why I get so giddy with excitement when i find REAL authentic food!
