Had a lovely date at Bondi
Oh, I discovered to my UTTER DELIGHT this morning that I’ve finally hit 44kg!! Happy day!! I could practically hear the angels singing when the number flashed up on my bathroom scales π I’ve stagnated for ages at 45kg as all the jogging/cycling was making me gain muscle, which meant I didn’t get to see any results. So it’s really rewarding to FINALLY see the weight go down. I’ve been feeling rather chubby lately so this comes as a huuuge relief. I’d like to go down another 1kg now, that’s my next goal π Good timing.. as tomorrow morning we’re doing the Asics 8km walk (fingers crossed for fab weather!!). It’s technically called a “walk”, but I’m hoping lots of people run, as I definitely intend to!
Kam Fook @ Bondi Junction
Westfield Bondi Junction

Bondi Junction, NSW 2022
Anyway, a celebration was in order because of the weight loss. So what better way to celebrate by eating some more?! Lunch was at Kam Fook, which we were keen on as we hadn’t had yum cha in yonks. They’re famous and often touted to be the “best yum cha” in Sydney.. and it’s not hard to see why. I prefer this Bondi Junction branch, as it’s more civilised and nicer-dining, whereas the other branches are a bit cramped and scummy. Thankfully, the trolley-ladies are pretty pleasant and don’t force you to get a dish from their trolley every time they push it past π
We wanted a really light lunch and so didn’t order much, but we were totally satisfied and impressed with the 5 dishes we got. Everything was crisp and fresh and hot, and we were very pleased with the free packet of tissue paper they gave, haha! More expensive than other more simple yum cha places (~$35 for our 5 dishes), but so lovely that we’ll be back.
Kam Fook is totally packed for lunch every weekend
Siew Mai – dumplings with prawns and mushrooms, with garlic chilli sauce
Prawns in pastry with sesame seeds
Deep fried wontons with sweet & sour sauce
Chewy ball thingys, with chicken and mushrooms
Mango & cream pancakes
We also watched X-Men 3, in the Gold Class cinemas! π Chris scored the tickets from work, as recognition for something he did.. err.. no idea what. He always gets them, so I told him to work harder so we get more – haha! The seats are really plush and soft and they serve you drinks and food, which is excellent. I really enjoyed the movie.. great effects, though I don’t see why so many people had to die?! I still liked it though.. and I’m looking forward to the new Pirates of the Carribean movie coming out π Too exciting!
The nice area at the Gold Class cinema
I adore chocolate shots – pure warm liquid chocolate… ooooerrr!!
A weird photo of me – caught eating π
Anyway, we’re meeting up with Chris’ best friend back from high school… we’re going out to the pub next door for dinner and beers. YUM :)~
mmm. the chocolate shot looks delicious!! π
have you had one? They’re diiiiivine!

Yummy! I love dim sum π
Me too.. we don’t have it often enough! π
ohh x-men3. i can’t believe i missed the last scene – hidden after all the names & credits rolling.. thank goodness for youtube.com hahahah.. π
WHAT?!?!??! Seriously? After the last bit with the chess players? Where is it? I want to see it now π
yep, after that scene. Hmm..apparently most of them have been removed from youtube. But here’s one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeQwk0olxis&search=x-men%203%20after
Apparently Dr Xavier is not dead!!! π
yumyumyum…I love Yum Cha!! Have been to the one at Chatswood a few times, but I’ve been wanting to try the one at Bondi Junction. Coconut jelly, mango jelly and those pancakes are my fave desserts and ooooh, I love those chewy things with the chicken and mushroom, I always get them, either with that filling or mincey stuff or even custard or red beans…now I’m hungry! When I go to Bondi with the family we usually end up at Kelly’s which is on the same level in the opposite corner. They have very tasty ribs and warm Brioche style bread served with butter, oooh and snails with creamy garlic butter sauce…the snails I kind of like, but the sauce…mmmmm.
Kam Fook @ Bondi is better than the Chatswood branch imho.. a bit more civilised π The chewy balls are my fave too! I always forget the chinese name for it though..
I haven’t been to Kellys, but the brioche sounds soooo good… think we’ll check it out next time :)~
Yummy! I love dim sum π
Me too.. we don’t have it often enough! π
That dim sum looks great! Are those threads of shark’s fin on the siew mai?
Errrr I haven’t a clue, haha!! But the siew mai was better than the normal stuff I get at other restaurants – generally I find they tend to have this funny ‘old’ smell and aren’t very tasty, but these were SO GOOD :)~~

Congrats on the weight loss! How tall are you, if I may ask? I’ve seen pics of you, after your last race, and I think you look so fit and toned!
I’m drooling over these food pics. My Cambodian/Chinese friend made me discovered yum cha and I always ask her to go back again. Unfortunately, there’s no such places in my city and I have to drive to Montreal (2 hours) to get some.
Anyways, it seems that you had a great day!
Ugh, I’m a midget.. only around 160cm π
Aww 2 hrs is a bit of a hike to get some yum cha! But if it’s once every few months, it’s worth it plus you can shop at montreal too.. hehe
ahh, you’re just the perfect height! As I said before, I think you look absolutely stunning!
And I totally agree about the shopping! π
Aww thanks π I wouldn’t mind being a LOT taller, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve learnt to accept it more – now I wear flat shoes without freaking out π

I want yum cha!! As soon as my exams finish I am going to yum cha with my boyfriend π
There are some really nice yum cha places in Melbourne!
Yeah, we’re lucky we live in cities with great food! I hadn’t had yum cha for ages.. was craving it so much, haha
Of all the yum cha pics that you have posted on your journal….this one ‘looks’ the most authentic to me; trust me, they DO!!!!!
Hehe, Kam fook is known to be really “hong kong”.. down to all the waitresses there that speak Cantonese π Love the place! I want to go to HK soon and get my proper HK-food fix..
oh, those mango and cream pancakes look sooo delicious :D~
those are one of my fave asian desserts.. so yum :)~
i’m so jealous of the food diversity i see in your lj, I wish i knew if Portugal has any restaurant that servers treats like you have there, sometimes i drool with your pictures π ***
But you have Portuguese chicken and a lot more! A colleague of mine is from Portugal and was telling me of all the good food there.. I was jealous π
yes, that’s true, we have good food here, but that’s the thing, we always want to try new things, and food from that side of the world just looks so yummy and new ;D*
how how?
how do u manage to stay so light and eat so much?
i have been dying to be 45 kgs for ages now..
i have lost weight from 60kg to 51kg now.. i wanna be 45!! how how?
Re: how how?
I’ve started excercising recently, so it helps!
But WOW, losing 9kg is unbelievable, you must have super wilpower! I’m envious, you must be really proud π
Re: how how?
my lowest was 49kg.. that would be 11 in total.. but i stopped exercising for almost a year.. thats why i gained 4 kgs after that.. and i have started exercising and eating well again.. and have lost 2 kgs since.. but still.. when i was at 49kg. i seem to stop losing after that..~~~ so annoyingggggg~~~~~
but u seem to eat so much moreeee.. and u still manage to stay at 45kg… so enviouss~~~
Re: how how?
Think it’s also bone density.. so ppl that are of identical weight don’t always look the same, and vice versa! But yeah, losing weight after a certain point is SO hard :X
Yummy food! I love Kam Fook…we used to go there during weekends though we had to queue up so long just to get a number for getting inside!
Heh yeah, they are SO ppopular! even when it’s late, they’ll still be one of the only restaurants packed to the brim. Such good food :)~
Kam Fook looks very elegant, I find alll the Chinese yum cha restaurants in Edmonton not classy enough. That chocolate shot looks yummy, did Starbucks ever do the Chantico drink where it basically pure melted chocolate in Australia? I had that once, and I found it too sweet.
Yeah they don’t tend to be very posh-looking, so this Kam Fook is pretty different. Plus it’s quieter and not as chaotic!
Ahhh I’ve never heard of the Starbucks drink, it sounds divine!!
*waves to fellow Edmontonian*
*waves back*
I’ve been craving some yum cha, recently. π
Have you tried Chequers in Chatswood? I prefer them but I have been to Kam Fook once, and I guess that was pretty good, too.
I saw X-Men 3 last night, and I actually thought it kinda sucked, at least compared with the first X-Men movie…
Yeah Chequers is good too.. I like both π
A lot of people thought 3 wasn’t as good. I’d have preferred seeing more of the different mutant powers, but I’m quite an easy person to please movie-wise, so I still loved it π
I followed the link to the movie place and it looks amazing… I was wondering how much it cost US so i did a little conversion action…Basically – when I reverse what I pay to AUS dollars…I pay 13 AU – for a noisy theater, crowded, with sticky floors and a small screen…
It would be alot to go to that movies all the time but for special times, oh yeah really nice π
Allllll that food looks so good but eyes really popped at the mango pancakes π they look just yummy…
They’re awesome, but coconut jelly/pudding is even better.
I’m not sure where abouts in the US you are, but is yum cha common in the US? I went to Europe last year and really missed yum cha because it doesn’t exist in Sweden/Denmark.
in the US you can get dim sum, which i’m pretty sure is similar or maybe the same. Many small servings of different things are offered. You pick which you want… Sometimes a whole resturant is dedicated to it and sometimes just a certain meal…
I have had coconut pudding/jelly…it might not be the same thing but its something that is popular in hawaii (not where i am but somewhere i have been π and the company Noh has packets you can mix up to make it… kind of nice when you are craving the taste π
Yeah, I had a lot of dim sum in London because I missed the food so much. It’s the same food, but at yum cha there are trolleys that come around and you just take the food off the trolleys instead of having to order it.
I am living in Denmark. Here we do have some chinese restaurants with yum cha but they serve pretty crap dim sum. I did try so many chinese restaurants before I found this good one called Pak Ka spisehuset. They make their own dim sum though. Of coz nothing compared to Hong Kong or even in Sydney. ( I lived in sydney for a while before as well )
Aww man, Denmark would be cool to live in π But yes, I would miss the array of different foods that I’m so used to now!
Denmark is nice to live in except for its long harsh winter. However it has the best summer even though it is short π
I have a few restaurants/cafes that I have tried when I was in Sydney and was their regular customer π —but i have a short term memory so i dont remember their name. I can ask my bf and will write u later! π
I ate out alot as you know food at new college were pretty *** π you know what I mean~ π except for satay chicken and fried calamaries!
These two restaurants were my fav. place in sydney!
Thaina Box–I LOVE THEIR CHICKEN and vegetables stir fry noodles with malay satay sauce!!
http://www.thainabox.com/
Bistro at Gloden Sheaf Hotel, Double Bay
Try their chargrilled scotch fillet with crisped mushroom risotto, aioli and caramelised onion jam!
http://www.goldensheafhotel.com/site/bistro/
oohh..and pls take pics for me if you go there π I misss those food so much π
They are really worth to try out!
Yayyyy thanks for the tips! π
Yeah, I did go to one dim sum in Kobenhavn and was a little disappointed. I was really surprised that there isn’t any good yum cha restaurants anywhere near Lund, Malmo, Kobenhavn.
Surely a yum cha restaurant would become really popular and people would start to like it, if one opened?
Ahhhhhhhhh you’ve had that coconut pudding at Kam Fook?!?! Chris was eyeing that but we weren’t sure whether to get it or not, d’oh!!
Umm… not sure if I had it at Kam Fook. I always aim to get it, though.
I actually made some at home the other day. This was my second attempt at homemade coconut pudding. It actually turned out fairly well this time – the taste was spot on, but it wasn’t as fluffy as it is meant to be. It turned out more like jelly. I believe I will get it perfect, next time.
Our regular tickets are AU$12-15 too.. it’s SUCH a ripoff it’s unbelievable! The theatres are only average :X
We just use our Gold Class tix for movies we think we’ll like, mostly blockbusters.. its not an every day kinda thing, too muuch of a waste π
That dim sum looks great! Are those threads of shark’s fin on the siew mai?
