CrΓͺpes

Chatswood, NSW 2067
I’m not sure if Crepes a la carte is new or if it’s been there for ages, but somehow we never noticed it.. despite being at Chatswood almost every weekend. I saw a 1-for-1 coupon in the Entertainment book so decided to check it out tonight. So glad we did! Sometimes, you just get a bit sick of all the Asian, more Asian.. and oh yes, yet even more Asian food that Chatswood offers.
This crepe restaurant is a lovely change – owned by a Frenchman (accent and all!), the crepes stand apart from it’s food-court version.. in so many ways. The crepes itself taste different, the fillings are different, and everything looks and tastes ‘polished’, if that makes sense. After eating these crepes, I never want to eat those skanky crepes they try and feed you at food courts..
Priced at AU$8-13 for a crepe, it’s really reasonable and only a few bucks more than the food court version. I opted for the Egg, Ham, shallots & Mushroom with GruyΓ¨re style cheese – it was a winner! It wasn’t too salty and had just the right amount of ingredients. The raw egg, cracked in the middle, was a cute touch π Chris had the Beef Provencale – Mince beef with fresh herbs served
on baby spinach and tomato & Onion, mushroom, corn, capsicum, olives, Garlic, Parmesan & GruyΓ¨re style cheese (whew!). It came neatly wrapped and was basically a fancy bolognaise sauce in a crepe.. very good too π
The staff are really warm and friendly, and the restaurant was small but every table was filled. I had a short conversation with the owner in French, which was kinda fun π I just asked how he was in French, and he was telling me where he was originally from, etc.. hee! Fresh, delicious, authentic French crepes. We’ll definitely be back to try out the dessert crepes – the Nutella one was calling my name! *smacks lips*
The restaurant, they have a lovely al fresco dining area – very romantic!
Pretty candles
Chilled apple cider
Our crepes

whaaa you can speak french?
thats on my TO LEARN list.. after i master my japanese.
lol.
crepes look yuuuuumm.
Hah… in the very loosest sense of the world! π I can speak beginner french, I do understand a lot more than I can speak, but it’s still not great.. esp cos I never get to practise it!
umm it’s been there since October last year. π
I have been once and tried the mushroom one.. I didn’t really like it, it made my mouth feel dry and powdery but I am keen to try other different ones.. and yes the alfresco area out the back is really nice and cosy. π
Hah yeah, I never walk down that street.. silly me.
It’s weird that the mushroom crepe would be dry and powdery! Well the nutella one is their best seller, so you could try that next time π
oh gosh they do look very different to the food court ones!
looks a bit oily on the outside tho? was it?
yummm*
Yeahuh! So much better imho π
They cook the crepes in butter so I guess taht’s why it’s glistening, and also cos I used the flash on my digicam. Wasn’t oily at all though *whew*
I followed the link to the crepe place’s site…MMMMMM…looks really good. I am so with you on the Nutella. oh yeah…. And i havent thought of apple cider in months – I guess I think of it in Fall – which i guess it kind of is for you π But chilled cider – how great for summer too ….the dinner crepe you got looks and sounds so de-lish!
I like that it’s run and cooked by a frenchman.. feels all the more authentic π The cider is free on tues and wed.. yay!

Yeah presentation is everything! Some of the crepes (think the seafood one) even come with a little French flag on it. So cute π

I go to that crepes place with my friends all the time coz it’s one of those places that’s opened till late on weekends. Haven’t tried the savoury crepes before though, I always have the sweet ones which are yum!
Ahhhh I can’t believe I’ve only just discovered it! Grrr… The savory was really yum, better than the takeaway crepe place inside Westfield and def better than the food court one!

Nutella + crepes = always a good idea π
Adding banana into it is also quite yummy π
Mmm yeah I love that combination. Def gonna get the nutella next time. I’m craving some now π
You seem to always find new foodie places that you didn’t know existed! Heh.
Those crepes look like prata!
Yeah! it’s funny how most cultures have their own versin of prata.. like the french one, the Turkish have gozleme, etc…
Yeah, Herve used to have a food/hawker stall in the Chatswood mall on Thursdays. Though I don’t think his shop is as busy as the stall was. I must admit his crepes are real nice…
Ooo i never knew that, I think I live under a rock :X I’m often @ Chatswood mall on Thurs nights – I love the Octopus balls and the Spanish chorizo sausage buns. Mmmmmm!!!!!
Ooh, yummy! I love a good crepe, there’s nothing else like it.
especially on a cold, wet, winter’s night.. like it was last night! So satisfying :)~
I haven’t been to Chatswood for ages. Those gorgeous looking crepes are giving me extra incentive to go!
Oo yeah , check it out! I’m always @ chatswood.. it’s the closet shopping centre, so I can walk there! I’ve never had proper French crepes in Australia.. it’s all the food court stuff :X
Glad you tried it! π
The dessert crepes are even better. I haven’t tried all of them, but the nutella one is my favourite, so far.
My reaction to this place was the same as yours – food court crepes are rubbish compared to these.
Oooooooooo it was you that told me about it, wasn’t it?! I couldn’t remember if it was someone I knew in real life, or an online mate, or whatever, haha. I have such a bad memory:P
I was telling the guy I was keen on the Nutella!! Will try it next time π
Yep, it was me. π
I want one of their crepe makers so I can make all kinds of yummy crepes at home. Crepes are much better than sandwiches.
That egg looks good!!!!! I love runny yolk π
Me toooo. I never used to like ’em, but now Chris has converted me π
The crepes look like prata don’t they?! Looks really delicious!
Haha they do! It’s like the french version of prata π
