From the look of your skin, any honest doctor would probably not recommend microdermabrasion to you. Usually it’s used for people with obvious scars. Your skin looks good. I would just go with a daily AHA…or glycolic acid…look up acids from Peter Thomas Roth and see if you like any of their products.

Hm… maybe there’s a light version of microderm.. I do use an AHA but it does nothing :X Maybe microderm just around the chin area?

microdermabrasion

Another option is microdermabrasion, probably a good idea to go get it done professional at least once before you use the kits at home to give you a good idea of what to expect. Microdermabrasion involves a machine blasting crystals at your skin to buff off the top layer – it’s like a very finely grained and very thorough exfoliation. If you have sensitive skin, it’s possible you could find it too rough. I tried it, and asked the therapist to blast the crystals on the back of my hand first so I knew what to expect. My skin looked very nice and clear the next day.

Although, that laser that Etherealprey mentioned sounds very interesting!

Re: microdermabrasion

I def like the sound of microderm.. I’ve read about it in mags, and yes, it sounds like since it basically takes off the top few layers of skin, it’ll probably get rid of those red marks, since they aren’t deep. I just gotta find out how much it cost! If it ends up being $$$$$ with the derm + microderm, then I’ll just forget it :X I want nice skin, but not if I have to pay hundreds of dollars for it!

i went to one and yes they do help, he gave me some creams and stuff, and my skin was more under control. it was less red and my skin totally cleared up. he says that he can’t control how oily it is but he can control acne and its other counterparts. he also did that thing with the needle where he lanced all my current zits and stuff, that shit hurt like hell but he did it. he recommended what lotions and creams were really good and which ones to avoid. he also helped me with some fading of the scars. He was a little too laser happy though, he loves that thing, said he could laser old scars and stuff away. i only went cause health insurance covered it. i’m surprised you’re not going already!

That sounds cool! And yay that your health cover paid for it πŸ˜› Think I”ll try it out once and see how it goes..

maybe not quite a dermatologist but … a beauty centre where you can have facials done, etc? i don’t know what they’re called. it doesn’t sound like you have skin problems but more to do with the pores?

Oh good idea… maybe all I need are a couple of good facials! Going to try and find some good beauticians now πŸ™‚ Thanks!

I’d try something over the counter first. Neutrogena just came out with an Acne Mark Fading Peel. Or try one of the L’Oreal ones. They have a Peel Kit and a Microdermabrasion Kit.

I dn’t have acne so I daren’t try the Neutrogena@! But the L’oreal sounds interesting.. DIY microderm must be way cheaper than going to a professional!

Honestly, in all the pics that you posted, I always admire your skin for being so clear and “fresh” and I don’t think you need a dermatologist.

That’s because it doesn’t really show up in pics.. if I take a closeup shot of my chin, you’ll see πŸ˜›

I went to one here in brissy. The visit was really good in treating break outs. I have rather severe breakouts every now and then. But, I soon realised it’s always the same advice, prescriptions they gave.

They gave me some medications for clearing off those marks too. Like eryacne gel (more like an applied antibiotics), and differin. I think marks just go off after some time. hmmm.

Honestly, I think seeing a GP is good enough! πŸ˜‰

yeap! a regular gp will do that. I think differin is the one that my dermatologist told me will prevent break outs as well as reduce scars. Check with your gp πŸ™‚

Heya! Gosh it’s amazing how unscrupulous some people can be – your sis should’ve brought it back and given her an earful!

I think it’s the protein in birds nest that’s good? I gotta try the ginseng pills, are they really supposed to be for good skin?

You can’t see the marks in pics, but you can see them up-close, they drive me nuts :X

oops accid deleted XD

well she had already used it πŸ™ but we did warn others off that woman afterwords…

The ginseng really works πŸ™‚ another friend and I swear by it, for some reason it makes your skin less sensitive? so it doesn’t really break out or do anything strange….

About the birds nest, might be… I mean they are chockfull of proteins and other weirder ingredients… if it weren’t so expensive to drink one every day I’d continue *lol*

oh yay! Going to see if the health store has ginseng tablets.. thanks for the tip πŸ˜€ Birds nest is too much of a hassle, lol, at leastwith the tablets I can pop and go!

I only go to one when I get a bad case of eczema. If it’s just blemish marks that you’re worried about, they’ll fade after a while.

Apparently they can take a year or more to fade :O
I was thinking microdermabration will get rid of them, but I think it’s extra $$ on top of the derm!

Microdermabrasion will help, but I dunno if it’s covered by private health care since it’s for cosmetic purposes?

*gak* I think you’re right… πŸ™ But if it works, I guess I could do it once. And hopefully I won’t need a follow up!
