the BBC (world radio) did a documentary series on tolkien’s LOTR. the movie was supposed to have been really well done because they incoporated minute details, and even details that are implicit in the book. not being a sci-fi/fantasy buff myself, i enjoyed the way i was slowly lured into an alternate reality, another world… a world so carefully and thoughtfully planned and created. and that is the magic of the movies.

It was an ending, just not something with closure the way we’re used to. π The movie was about the fellowship of the Ring, and the end of the Fellowship of the Ring (movie, book and group) is basically, well, when the fellowship ends and people split up.
Besides the fact that it’s way too long to be crammed into just one movie, I like it that it spans 3 movies/books actually. Gives you the feeling of the scale of the epic and how it’s supposed to span time and space. Tolkein created a beautiful mythology and a whole different world, that is absolutely HUGE, and it just can’t be contained in one book or one movie sitting. It’s absolutely amazing that one man made up a whole mythology with such detail — he was the first of the Robert Jordans.
I rattle on, though, excuse me. All those years of analysing texts and reading fantasy – two separate and related events. π And yeah, enjoy the rest of the Ender series..I personally think Ender’s Game is the best of the lot, but the rest of it is quite good too. π
The first book does end that way…
only simple people don’t appreciate the ending. you have to be a tolkien fan, and have had to have read the trilogy to know how truely amazing the movie was.
