I know a lot of companies won’t give you any leave until you’ve completed your first year of service….reason being is that for whatever reason you had to leave the company before you’ve accrued the leave then it’s a problem for the company. Here in Oz, you’ll get 1.67 days of accrued leave per month (20 days/12 months).

But having said that, it’s at the discretion of your manager….but generally the rule of thumb is what I described above.

Oh yeah that makes sense.. thanks for that πŸ™‚ I think they’ll let me take a few days off when my parents are here though, especially since I have my grduation ceremony and that!

Eh? I didn’t really think about that.. I don’t think people really have grad parties here? Haven’t heard of one anyway! But nah, my parents and I and Chris’ll probably go somewhere nice for dinner but that’s about it πŸ™‚

Don’t take 2 weeks off since you first started…not a good idea professionally. Better to save your vacation time for year-end πŸ™‚ BTW, it’s nice that you get 4 weeks paid leave…in the US, standard is 2 weeks only. Everywhere else in the world is about 3-4 weeks, some places in Europe you get 5!!! Count your blessings girlie πŸ˜‰ I’m jealous!

Yeah good point.. πŸ™‚ I’ll def take it during CNY!

I think in SG it’s also about 2 or 3 weeks? But here we’re taxed like *crazy* – the highest tax rate is 48%!!

Well in NY it’s close to 40%. Plus we also have 8.6% tax on everyday things!! PLUS our rent is through the roof, but we’ve been through that πŸ˜› 48% IS a heckuva lot though….but that won’t be what you’ll be paying will it?

Yeah NY is dead expensive to live in :X I’m really wanting to go for a holiday though, so I’m going to figure out when I can afford it and take time off!

Yes it is…but New York City is *so* gorgeous at Christmas time πŸ™‚ Plus, that’s when all the really awesome sales are!!

Ughhhhh temptinnnnggggg… I’ll have to decide whether I can brave the cold with the promise of seeing a pretty city and getting to go to killer sales πŸ˜‰

Hey Bev:) Cool work you do:) Did you design the whole website/main page yourself, or did you just update it with you stuff?
As for your leave, well working in the private sector, you’re right that it may not look too good if you take 2 weeks paid leave so early in your job, maybe you could take like 2 or 3 days leave but take it in the middle of the week so that it can stretch out to your weekend, that would mean an extra 2 days with your parents:P
Then for Chinese New Year, you might want to take 2 weeks off or something, coz then at least you’d have been there for about 6 months so it won’t look too bad:)
Just IMHO:P

My works’ kinda hard to describe.. I’m in platforms and operations and basically I “man” the website and approve stuff before it goes live, etc.. that’s some of what I do, still learning as I go!

Good point about taking so much leave so soon.. maybe ill just take a few days since my parents are here, then 2 weeks off during CNY would be sooooo good!
