Why are you looking for places so far away from your work? The city is not safe-anywhere around UNSW is unsafe. Many areas outside that only takes about 15 minutes by transport to city and 10 minutes to MQ. Plenty of areas- safe/cheap and in great qualities. Why not try places like Hornsby and around those areas?

Oh, this CSIRO job is a vacation scholarship, so once it’s over end of feb, I go back to Uni.. and since I’m a full-time student there, I have to live around there. We’re in a security building, so hopefully we won’t have any breakins :T

Hi Bev, Danae here again. Sorry to butt in, but as a former resident of Randwick, Kingsford and Maroubra, I’ve seen alot of apartments there and Kennedy Street isn’t a good choice. At least two of the people I know got robbed while walking up the slope – there’s a particularly steep part where visibility is poor on both sides. I don’t know where the place you saw was, but in general, unless it’s really close to Anzac Parade, it isn’t safe to walk to the higher UNSW gates even if it’s just across the street. High street is less steep but because there aren’t any shops there it tends to be deserted at night. I’d suggest you start looking even if it takes longer – in the long run it will be worth it. Just my 0.02. Hope this helps.

Crap!! We got High St (well, almost, we just have to put a deposit in on Mon morning to secure it as ours) so hopefully that’s not too bad.. it’s just opposite upper campus and should be ok during the day. And at night I’m never alone ‘cos Chris’ll be with me. But, Chris and the guys are living on Meeks St, at the intersection to Kennedy St.. and they walk up kennedy st to upper campus – I hope they’ll be ok!
