Hunter, HUNTER, CARTER & CHLOE, Things my kids say... LIFE’S LITTLE QUOTES: Will it be different? 27 June 2017

Hunter, at 6 years old, is the kind of kid that holds his emotions close to his heart. He doesn’t often dish out cuddles and isn’t effusive in his affection… Nonchalant is his middle name.

Because of his close age gap (18 months) with Carter, he has always viewed Carter as an equal more than a younger sibling. I guess you could say they almost regard each other as twins.

But since the start of last year, Hunter has been asking for “a baby” – specifically, a baby sister.

So he was – and is – really excited to see her and still exclaims “my dream came true!”

Apart from that, he generally does not talk about his feelings, and doesn’t wear his heart on his sleeve, much like Carter does.

Now that I’m about to pop, though, the reality is starting to set in.. And he’s old enough, and aware enough, to understand that our family is about to go through a MAJOR change.

Yesterday, we were all out at brunch and Hunter was playing and talking to Chris at the table while we were waiting for the food to arrive.

He suddenly looked up at Chris, and asked quietly, “It’s going to be different soon, right, Daddy?”

“What is?”, asked Chris.

“Well.. when Chloe is born, you’ll be busy looking after her. But now, you still have time to play with me.”

HEART.

STABBED.

Chris reassured him that while, yes, we will be busy with a newborn, anytime Hunter feels left out, he can ask to go out on a Daddy-and-me date.

Then Chris said, “Will we love you less, the same, or even more?”

Hunter thought about it for a second.

“Even more”, he grinned.

And that, my darling, is the truth!
