Hunter, HUNTER, CARTER & CHLOE, Things my kids say... LIFE’S LITTLE QUOTES: I want to marry you, Mummy 22 May 2014

HunterTowel

My little three year old, pleased as punch that he has his towel wrapped around his waist.

“I look just like Daddy”, he declared, with a big grin.

But it was last night when he melted my heart.

We were at the dinner table, and I was trying to explain to him the concept of marrying someone.

“It’s when a boy and a girl love each other and live together. Just like Mummy and Daddy“, I said. “And then you have to sleep in the same bed every night. Who do you want to sleep with every night, Hunter?”

He answered, without even really thinking for more than two seconds, “I want to sleep with you, Mummy”.

And, today, I was out with Carter so my parents picked Hunter up from school and took him out for lunch. He was quiet and pensive at the table, so Dad asked, “What are you thinking about, Hunter?”

He responded, “I’m thinking about Mummy’s face.”

HEART.

MELTED.

ONTO.

FLOOR.

Hi Beverly, I read your blog now and then, and came across this post, and the earlier comment. I think that if you feel that marriage is meant to be between a man and a woman, it’s great that you paint that picture to your son. Kids will see all sorts of people falling in love with each other as they grow up, two pple of the same sex, perhaps even three..(who knows what society will become in future) but what kind of falling in love leads to a marriage? Parents have a play in shaping how they think about marriage, even if kids grow up to make their own decisions, I reckon. Just my two cents.

Hi Beverly. Listen, while reading this story you share, I was grinning like an idiot at how cute it is. But, the way you explain marriage to Hunter… Maybe you could say ‘When two people fall in love with each other…’ instead of ‘a boy and a girl’? Hunter will be growing up and explore the world later, he will see people of the same sex having a relationship and he may get confused by it. I’m not trying to be mean or anything, just some idea of this nosy reader 😉
