Hunter, HUNTER, CARTER & CHLOE, Things my kids say... MR CAUTIOUS 9 March 2013

If you know, or have met, Hunter in real life… you’d probably have figured out that he’s EXTREMELY cautious about his well-being. He is very unhappy about any body part being dirty, very worried about bonking his head on stuff, and extremely cautious if we tell him something is dangerous (ie. doors slamming on fingers, knives, fire etc etc).

I have no idea how he became like this!

We do warn him about safety, but nothing that excessive… just to similar extent that my other friends would do to their children too. He’s just naturally cautious, and has been like that since he was a baby.

Lately, he’s taken to a bossy big brother role.. telling Carter “Don’t fall!”, “No chewing Sophie (the giraffe)”, “No throwing”, “Not so loud” etc etc.

But his latest worry isΒ car parks.

I suppose this is a good thing, because he’s super-alert and wants to hold someone’s hand when he’s in a car park, lest a car comes zooming past and hit him or something..

So the other day, I was walking into the car park and wasn’t holding his hand. He stopped, and said:

“Mama! Hold hand. Careful. Car park.”

I said, “OK honey, thanks for warning Mummy. Hold my hand then.”

He then importantly said, “Look right. Look left. No car? GO!”

And led me across the car park to the other side.

Good job, my thoughtful son. Now my wish is that when he’s all grown up, he helps people in need to cross the road too.

“Slow down OK, don’t run!”
