FOOD, Friends, Living in... Singapore JUST A LAZY WEEKEND BBQ… 30 June 2012

This ranks up there as one of my favourite quotes. How true is it?! I like people that enjoy their food, so I’m grateful I have friends that are willing to check out new cafes and restaurants with me, and will sit back and relish their food.

Anyhoodle, Chris decided the other week that he wantedΒ a casual pool & BBQ party with some friends, so we pulled together a few couples for a relaxing and outdoorsy afternoon over the weekend.

The lovely thing about having casual parties like this is that there’s very little fuss – only a bit of preparation in booking the area, and buying BBQ food as well as organising cutlery. Friends then bring a simple dish or some drinks, and since it’s all held outdoors there’s little cleaning up to do. Yes, I do like (and miss!) the lovely dinner parties we used to hold.. where I could cook properly in the kitchen and host friends. But, it’s not so feasible these days because we don’t have much energy or time to be in the kitchen preparing/cooking/cleaning, especially when we have a toddler.

Hunter was totally fascinated with the baby, and also her stroller πŸ˜‰

BBQ (2)
This is a baby girl. You know, just in case you couldn’t figure that out πŸ˜‰

The kids and adults splashed around in the pool, and I thoroughly enjoyed it because now that I’m 3rd trimester pregnant, a dip in the pool is pretty much the only thing that keeps me cool these days. Hunter, our lil water baby, had a lovely time splashing around, and I think he liked having his lil girl friends there with him too πŸ™‚

Photos below are taken with Merrill’s camera by the way, which has the magical ability of making all of us appear really good-looking. Hurray!

TheΒ other good thing about having a BBQ party is that…. the girls don’t have to cook! The boys naturally take over and will get the fire going, then BBQ up the food. And it means we can sit around and chat.. in between looking after the kids πŸ˜‰

And, I love BBQ food. This time, we decided to goΒ half-Singaporean and get chicken satay sticks as well as chicken wings. And we’re converted. Next time, we’ll definitely do half-Aussie (sausages and steaks) and half-Singaporean (satay and chicken wings) again. Why hadn’t we thought of this before?!?!

Omg, I was laughing so hard at the first pic of the “gorgeous photo of a gorgeous boy” then YOUR little one right after, labelled “stealth mode” and it’s not quite the same type of photo. Haha!!

Great pics! What do you do to protect Hunter’s fair skin from all that sun? Is there a brand of sunscreen you prefer?

Love that last photo of Hunter and the one in stealth mode. He is very photogenic.

And, can you tell me what kind of camera Merrill has to make everyone look so good?

It’s a Canon 5D MkIII. And the pics aren’t supposed to be that bright, I don’t know what Bev did to them πŸ˜›

Totally agree that it’s only during a BBQ that the boys naturally take over the cooking duties. Hehe.

Love the last pic of Hunter too! πŸ™‚

The pictures of Hunter in stealth mode and toddling in the water are so cute! His lashes are so long, I can almost imagine him as a girl! (:

Love that you have the guts to put the unflattering pic of yourself.
