Hunter, Playdates A 5-KID PLAYDATE 9 December 2011

Did we dare to have 3 adults and 5 children all out for lunch together? That just sounds like an EPIC FAIL in the making, with thoughts of mayhem and madness. In reality though, we were all (pleasantly) surprised that there was zero crying/fussing from all the kids, and all of them were well behaved and quiet! Crazy huh? Don’t know how it happened, but we were grateful 😉

We checked out Next Door Deli, owned by the famous Pine Garden Cakes next door (who catered for our wedding cake!). It’s a small cafe that’s simple and cheery, with very nice staff and a brisk turnover of customers. The pictorial menu is up on the wall and is self-service – you get your own drink, choose your food and pay at the counter.. and you get a number for your order, which you pick up when the same number flashes up on their LED screen. It kind of reminded me of a smaller-scale Ikea cafe.

The prices range around the $10 mark, which is really reasonable. Portion sizes are decent and my Fish & Chips filled me right up. The best deal, however, is their Set Meal of the Day, which is an impressive $7.90 for a soft drink, main, and dessert.

DON'T STEAL MY FISH & CHIPS OKAY?!

Lemongrass green tea, fantastic

And then it was…. dessert time! All up, we ordered around 8 different types of desserts. All very unique, because that’s their speciality. But errrr… we didn’t take photos of any of them. Oops! The lady working there even gave the kids their own desserts, which was really nice of her. Hunter loved the Margarita chiffon cake and Chocolate brownie, LOL.

Hello there desserts. GET IN MY BELLY.

Boy on the left's face just cracks me up!

Poor Hunter eyeing the desserts hungrily whilst chomping on his (tasteless) rusk…

After that, we walked over to my girl friend’s place so the kids could play and create a ruckus on the floor at home. They LOVED it. I guess kids love being around other kids, and banging toys around and going nuts. I thought Hunter would get overwhelmed with all the older kids making loud noises, but he was fine and was really interested in watching what they were doing.

They all had a blast because the place is like a kindergarten – it is wall-to-wall full of toys, play vehicles, tents/houses, etc etc! Maybe 5x the amount of toys that Hunter has, easily 😉 I think Hunter didn’t quite know what to do with himself, when faced with so many toys.. LOL.

Hunter looks like a proper little boy now! It’s so awesome that Hunter has playdates often, always good for kids to have other kids to play with. My poor boy has been cooped indoors cos the nursery he sometimes goes to has a chicken pox outbreak!
