Food reviews - Singapore, Friends A VINTAGE TEA PARTY 17 October 2011

A vintage tea party?

Yes, please!

Quite possibly one of the most elegantly laid out high teasย I’ve had in Singapore,ย Barracks Cafe at House serve a summer high tea buffet that’s extra girly and oh so pretty. The restaurant is all about no-frills bare faced appeal, but their high tea set up is just the opposite.

It’s situated outside in their (glass-enclosed) balcony and looks much like Alice in Wonderland. Lots of flowers and greenery, vintage knick knacks, and little delectable treats strewn around. The prettiness alone is worth the money ๐Ÿ˜›

Vintage tea party!

The food was really good. Was pretty impressed as a lot of the food was mini versions of their regular menu. For example, their mini pizzas had the same ingredients as on their menu, and were delicious! I loved the squid-ink calamari/prawn pizza, and the truffle mushroom pizza. Best of all, they keep bringing out more, so you can keep going until you pop ๐Ÿ˜‰

Beautiful decor and yummy mini pizzas

There was a whole selection of homemade toppings to put on top of bread (a variety that you can select from). my favourite was the truffle mushrooms which I combined with chunks of Brie and slathered it all on crackers. Had around 10 of these as they were addictive! Plus, mushrooms are veggies and veggies are good for you, right… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Assorted toppings and cheese selection

Pretty greenery

And, ohhhh, the desserts!! What a selection. And they were just so pretty. Mini little morsels that were all begging to be placed “one of each, please!”ย on our plates ๐Ÿ˜‰ Best item? The little chocolate tartsย you see on the bottom-left of the picture below. Rich creamy chocolate encased in a buttery tart shell. Luscious.

Desserts. All eaten. Hehehe.

I was surprised that they brew their own tea.. in cool blends like a Coconut green tea (it tasted like I was drinking a spa, haha), Lemongrass, Ginger, etc. The teas came in large vintage-style thermos tins that were adorable to look at, but not very practical to pour out ๐Ÿ˜‰
