Hunter, Uncategorized FIRST SOLIDS, FIRST SIPPY CUP, FIRST HIGH CHAIR! 19 July 2011

Tried Hunter out on his first solids this week πŸ™‚ He’s still 99% breastfed but giving him 2 teaspoons of organic baby rice cereal in the evening to get him used to taking solids. You would think it’d be extremely exciting… but nope, he just took to the spoon and cereal (the texture of baby food) like he’d been doing it for ages! Just ate normally, didn’t really blink an eyelid, and it was all rather non-eventful. LOL. I guess I was hoping for some sort of fireworks and excitement! Maybe it’ll be more exciting (ie. seeing cute reactions from him) when we go onto different types of fruit/veggies/etc..

Breastmilk + cereal… not too appetizing looking πŸ˜‰

NOM!

Cute at the 7:10 mark πŸ˜›

At the same time, we also started on his first sippy cup. I just filled it up with a bit of (cool boiled water) and he sits in a reclining position. It was also quite un-eventful!! The 1st time he was a bit confused with it, as he’s never held a bottle since I breastfeed directly. But after I put his hands on each handle and showed him how the spout goes into his mouth, he took to it easily and would eager stuff the spout into his mouth whenever I give him the cup now.

For me??

*stuffs into mouth*

Holding handles + spout in mouth = WIN!

His 2nd attempt at using a sippy cup

We decided on the Graco blossom 4-in-1 seating system as his high chair – a bit of a splurge but it was the best we could find. It had stellar reviews and was ranked #1 high chair by Babble. It looks like a throne for a baby, LOL! I was also after the Inglesina (may have been because they have a gorgeous turquoise colored one, hee) but Chris vetoed it as he preferred this Graco one.

This Graco high chair is super sturdy, and I love the way he sits comfortably in it, not to mention it’s easy for us to maneuver and use. It just feels really nice, and he’s really safe and secure in it. He really likes it too, which is the main thing πŸ™‚

The really nice thing about seeing your child sit up, drink from a cup/bottle and eat solids is that they suddenly seem like a big boy. It was like one minute he was lying down and just like a baby, and the next minute he’s sitting up and feeding himself his drinks like a little toddler. It’s just amazing how quickly babies learn and grow… and so wonderful to watch.

Oh these precious moments and memorable firsts, watching your child grow up…. πŸ™‚

my take on high chairs

Hey hun
Doh missed this post, hope you haven’t bought it yet!
We also bought a comfy high chair back then and I quickly regret I haven’t gone for the $39 ikea one. All other chairs are just a pain to clean: clean the cushiony seat, clean the frame and food goes into the cracks where plastic joins etc… the ikea one is just one big piece of plastic, so handy. Then soon enough he’ll have his mini chair and table, or what we find it that Arthur is happy to sit at a dining table with no booster.
😑

Re: my take on high chairs

Heh yes I do think the ikea one is plain and easy to clean. Elliot has one so later when Hunter is older I can transition it to him. For now I like this Graco one as it’s much more padded and comfy for him, when he’s so young!

They grow up so fast, don’t they? πŸ™‚ So cool that Hunter has gotten the knack of using the sippy cup! Can’t wait to try that out on my son sometime haha…

I think I am not alone when I say I am absolutely IN LOVE with Hunter. It is amazing how you have managed to share him with us, and for us to see how much he’s grown, from 3 week old baby swimmimg with a neck ring to now a big boy drinking from a sippy cup and sitting in his high chair!

I love how he would keep his mouth open in between the spoon feedings and how his eyes followed the spoon! too adorable!!!

Aww thank you hon!
It’s incredible how quickly they grow up.. weird to think now that 6 months ago he was just born and totally boring, just lying there and doing nothing πŸ˜‰

What a great video of Hunter having his first solid meal! πŸ™‚ He’s growing up soooo fast!!!! Makes me so impatient to meet my little man too!

I agree.. I like him breastfed cos it’s easiest and nicest πŸ˜‰ It’s why we’re taking such baby steps.. he just takes 2 tsp a day of cereal, mostly just so he gets used to the concept. Then after he’s 6 months i’ll slowly ramp it up!

Hi babe, what sippy cup did you use? Does it have a non-leak valve? Clover isn’t taking to the cup well because the ones we got have a non-leak valve so she still has to suck which she doesn’t do (that explains our bottling issue as well).

It’s the Nuby one – it’s the non-leak valve but he was fine with it, I was thinking maybe cos it’s so similar to the nipple… VS a regular spout where the drink just flows out??

It works super well though and Hunter eagerly reaches for it to suck, so maybe that will work with Clover too!

well done, hunter!! i’ve been told that some babies may not know how to react and swallow from the spoon feeding. but hunter did awesome!

It’s true! The first spoonful he hung his mouth open (with the food inside already) until we made swallowing motions ourselves and he could follow. Then after that he caught on, heh
