FOOD, Uncategorized TARTIFLETTE – FRENCH WOMEN DON’T GET FAT? 12 May 2011

Today I bring to you, my dear friends, one AMAZING French dish. Know the book “French Women Don’t Get Fat”? Yeah, I don’t think those women are eating this dish. That, or they are mutants and don’t gain weight even when eating food like this πŸ˜‰

The dish is called Tartiflette, and we discovered the wonders of this beauty when it was homecooked for us by our French friends, who were very kind to indulge us in our gastronomic desires. I don’t think it gets more authentic than that, no? πŸ™‚

Tartiflette is a French dish from the Savoie region. It’s special because it uses a giant amount of Reblochon cheese, which is made from milk that comes from the ‘second milking’ of cows and is thus very rich and fatty. The dish also has potatoes, cream, and lardons (fatty bacon bits).

The result? Gooey, drippy, cheesy goodness. Unbelievably heavy and exceedingly rich, it’s a major flavour explosion. Not for the faint hearted! Especially considering the fat and calories involved are likely over a person’s normal daily intake. However, it is delicious and worth all the calories πŸ˜‰

A big dish of Tartiflette was made, but it was so good the 4 of us polished everything off. Oops. Now, how is it again that “French women don’t get fat”? May I please be privvy to how this is possible, when such French food exists??!?!?
