Hunter, Uncategorized HUNTER’S FIRST SWIM 3 March 2011

I forgot to actually put a proper blog entry on Hunter’s first swim.. got too excited and posted the video with no explanation πŸ˜›

Anyway, Club Baby is this swimming place for infants. Newborns take very well to water because apparently it reminds them of still being in the womb. I suppose it also gets them used to the experience of swimming so that later, they don’t fear water/pools.

We decided to try it out and were impressed with the way Club Baby is set up. They use fresh, filtered water that’s changed for each baby, and the tubs are all lined in disposable liners. They have registered nurses working there who also do a once-over of your baby’s health. It’s a lovely, warm environment with very caring nurses.. and we felt comfortable putting Hunter in their hands.

Hunter took to it very well! After a quick check by the nurse, he had a soothing baby massage and then was place into his tub. He had a bit of a “WHAT THE…” expression at the start, but then figured out the whole kicking part so he could paddle around in the water. So. Freaking. Adorable. Afterwards, he was given a bath and then swaddled in a warm towel to try off.

If you have/are having an infant, I totally recommend this! I think it’s a good experience for babies and gives them a chance to exercise as well. Plus, it totally wipes ’em out so they sleep for HOURS afterwards.. which meant we could go out for lunch and wander around and he was zonked for the entire afternoon.

Here Hunter is at 4.5 weeks.. during his first swim!

the baby swimming thing is huge in singapore too! I’ll probably bring Alexis for a try too! But it makes me think why can’t we just do it in a bath tub or pte pool in Singapore :p

Yeah my parents told me! A pool would be waaay too cold (nurses said should be at least 1 yr old for that) and it’s diff to a bath tub cos these tubs are all heated (so temp doesn’t drop), they use sterile water and tub liners that’s changed for each baby. And they also do a quick health check, baby massage and bath. Plus you get to talk to the registered nurses and ask ’em any questions/concerns you have. very cool service πŸ™‚

Hunter seems so alert for a newborn! I remember my cousin’s baby last year just slept a lot! Lol too bad we don’t know what Hunter is thinking. If there were cartoon bubble above his head it looks like he’d be thinking “this is awesome!”

I think he’s alert then cos he’s so surprised at being in the water, haha. He does sleep a lot but when he’s awake, he has SUPER round eyes and is really alert – guess that’s what you get when you sleep for hours πŸ˜‰

Sooooo cute! I’ve seen my friends in Singapore going for this infant swim thing too. It seems to be a big hit!

Ooo really? I’d prefer if it helps them fart or burp more though, haha! Hunter poops like mad, but we struggle to get gas outta him

I am dying of cuteness πŸ™‚ They don’t offer anything like this here, but it’s a cool idea! And there is officially nothing cuter than a baby bum πŸ™‚

just curious cos i see this at world trade center in Sg too. How isit different from doing it in your bathtub? Do they do anything different to the water?

i know this is going to sound weird, but do you nibble on his cheeks sometimes? they’re so chubby! adorable! πŸ™‚

Oh wow, never heard of Club Baby before! How interesting and such an awesome idea! His expression is priceless πŸ™‚

there are a few places in Singapore too. I brought mine when he was slightly older. Didn’t really like it because he started crying at the end.

Some of my mummy friends brought their babies at the same to swim in a big tub, and they are all so cute! They are like goldfish in a bowl, where a lot of people at the shopping mall just crowded outside to watch the babies swim.

Differences include no disposable liner for the tub, and babies wear swimming diapers.

yeah i heard people bring em in young so they get used to it, which was why they did. So cute to have em all swimming together tho!
