Hunter, Uncategorized CESAREAN RECOVERY 3 February 2011

Video of me in labour, at 9cm dilation (ie. 90% of the way to birth!).
I was drug-free, but kept falling asleep during labour & pushing ‘cos was sooo tired!

My recovery from my Cesarean was….. painful. I won’t mince my words – it was friggin’ awful being gutted like a fish. You can imagine how I felt afterwards!!

I was adamant to recover prescription-drug free after the surgery. Which meant the pain was a lot greater, but ensured I was alert and aware, and nothing would be transfered to Hunter via my breastmilk. Because I was so disappointed with having to undergo surgery (NOT part of my birth plan!), I was deadset hell-bent to make sure I had the fastest recovery possible. I did pop some Ibuprofen in the first 2 days, but then stopped and just pushed through.

The problem was that I had all the post-pains from labour/pushing… AND the Cesarean! Usually you just have to grit your teeth through one or the other, but I had both πŸ™ I guess you could call it every pregnant woman’s fear πŸ˜›

The first 4 days were the worst. I could barely move, but forced myself to pace the hallways ‘cos I know the best thing after surgery is being active. But now, a week later, the rewards have come through – I feel really GOOD!! I’m proud to have pushed my way through the pain, and happy that my recovery was swift and I feel pretty much normal now – I can carry Hunter and walk around, and basically feel like a normal human being again πŸ™‚

I’m still angry with myself I had to have a Cesarean, but I tell myself God made it that way, and I feel blessed to have had a chance to go through the full labour experience (essential in getting all those hormones running through the system) also drug-free and overall a very good experience. Hunter came out perfectly healthy and robust, and that’s what matters, right?

Anyway, some random photos taken whilst we were still in the hospital!

Aw love, don’t be upset with yourself because you had a cesarean … it would have been so painful and frustrating though, I bet πŸ™ but so glad everything turned out ok in the end.. Hunter is so beautiful!

Just read this post and saw the video! It’s AWESOME that Chris is so, so, so sweet to you and so pro-active in your pre-labour and post-labour stages!

You did GREAT during your labour, Babe! Glad to hear that you recovered well!

But why are you angry about having a C-section? Hunter is so big, if you carried on with a natural birth I don’t think it would end well.

It just wasn’t something I was expecting, so I had ZERO idea about it and what to expect. I was so convinced I would have a natural birth, so even though I know I needed the c-section, it was still a shock for me :X

hi

Hi Beverly, I m proud of you for having your kid by either way:)

He is so cute and beautiful!! I guess inherited Chris’s genes which is probably why he is so big hehe.

Maybe next time your baby will be petite and u can have a natural delivery!:)

It’s not that drugs are super bad, but just that it’s even better if you can handle doing it drug free, which was why I wanted to πŸ™‚

Wow thanks for sharing your experience.

You’re one determined and strong-willed lady. And I really admire you for that. Really.

Sorry that you had to go through both post labour and caesarean pain. But as you said the most important thing is that both you and Hunter are safe and sound now. May not understand why God allows some things in our lives like pain, but trust that He will use everything in our lives for our good!!!

I think motherhood makes you able to draw all this energy and determination, that you thought you never had before! But I thank God that Hunter arrived safe and sound and so healthy.. it’s all I really care about πŸ™‚

Your baby was larger than the normal sized baby that comes out for the first time in this world. It is natural this is impossible to carry on a natural birth especially for your tiny petite frame. It is dangerous for a small pelvised lady to give birth to such a large baby.

Just be glad your baby came out healthy!!! that’s all it should matter!

Yeah, he is healthy and robust so I’m very relieved! Will pray that our next one is much smaller for me to push out πŸ˜‰

He’s is a lil chubby one isn’t he? hehe, so cute!

Doesn’t matter how or what you had hun, just as long as Hunter and you are both healthy in the end πŸ™‚ I’m sure you will get over it soon in time!

There’s so much more to it then just pushing out a baby? A lot of my friends are having babies now and I’m learning so much πŸ˜€ I’m sure you can never be 100% prepared for EVERYTHING by reading books and hearsay’s until you’ve actually experienced it, eek!

Congrats again xox

It’s great that you feel so good so quickly. Caesareans can really do a number on your body and I think you’re absolutely right that all that drug-free labouring and your general fitness made a huge difference to your recovery time.

Hunter is such a chubby bubby; I can see why it would have been impossible for teeny you to push him out. Maybe the next one will be petite. πŸ™‚

No kidding, I was astonished at how gut-wrenching (literally!) the surgery was. So awful.

Here’s hoping the next one is much smaller so I can do a VBAC!

I still can’t get over the size of him!!

Bev, you did a fabulous job! Like you said, you got the chance to experience part of a natural childbirth, so it’s not all bad. So glad he came out safely.

I hope you’re not too sore now. Take care.

awww sweetie.. too cute. you look so peaceful and graceful! i kinda expected labour and contractions to be painful and dramatic. hope you recover soon! you’re a trooper!!!

p.s. quit making me wanna have babies too!

The pushing part was a lot more drama, heh, so much so that Chris couldn’t take videos anymore cos he was looking after me. Glad it’s all over!!

Ahh. You know, when I first saw that you had a Caesarean, I almost posted and said how sorry I was – because they suck so much – but you seemed pretty happy and I didn’t want to assume it had been a problem.

Both my sisters (after previous natural births) ended up having caesareans with their last babies, and they were both upset/furious about it, and in a lot of pain afterwards. I think the issus around caesareans are not often acknowledged or talked about – so while I know the main thing is Hunter (and he’s perfect!!!!), I am sending lots of love for your continuing recovery, too.

Thanks Ros *hug* I think the prob with surgery is that it’s HELL to recover from.. far worse than a natural birth, and it was why I wanted to avoid it. So I’m so annoyed, but at the end of the day, Hunter is just fine so whewww!

You are so strong! Congrats again.

I hope you’re not discouraged from having a natural birth next time. VBAC is very safe.

wow! you look so so beautiful! & Hunter is a joy!
I am so amazed by your determination and strength, gives me alot of courage for that next chapter in my life.

aww thanks! You’ll be surprised at what you’re willing to go through for your child, I’m sure you’ll be awesome πŸ™‚

Hehehe I think most people forget about the father during labour/birth.. so it was nice to have him video it from his perspective too.
