A very happy announcement πŸ™‚ They say a picture says a thousand words. I figured, a video will say a thousand pictures πŸ˜‰

The video got flattened when I saved it, hence why I look a bit squashed/weird – sorry!

Haha you’re perceptive!

I think my accent’s 50/50 with Aussie and Singaporean.. it kinda swings back and forth sometimes, heh

Congrats Bev and Chris!!! That is truly fantastic news. Here’s wishing you a very very smooth pregnancy ahead. Take care.

Congrats on the great news! I love the way you announced it:D I am also expecting my 3rd kid, now at 23 weeks. It will be so fun to have kids at around the same time:):):)

Coooool! Congrats to you too, not long to go now, you’re over half way! Nice to have a fellow preggo mum too.. though you are WAY more experienced than me, teehee

ooh be careful what you eat in europe! no blue cheese, white rind cheese, air dried meats!

enjoy 2nd tri!

was this planned? i got the impression you weren’t gonna have kids till u moved back to sg.

Yeah… no to a LOT of food in Europe, doh!! Ah well…

It was half-planned, as in, ended up being almost a year earlier than we thought I’d fall pregnant, haha

Congratulations!

Congratulations Bev & Chris!!!!! This is so exciting! Thank you for sharing with LJ! You are absolutely beaming in the video Beverly, we can see how happy and ecstatic you are!

WOW CONGRATULATIONS!!! That’s really awesome news, very happy for you. Also good to hear you haven’t had a lot of the horrible symptoms e.g. nausea. :o)

OMG, congratulations Chris & Bev! That’s such and exciting news. I wish you an easy pregnancy throughout. U’re right, you’re not showing much yet and still so normal and energetic. =) So very happy for you guys! =D

Congratulations!!! I had absolutely no idea that you were gonna announce your pregnancy!! Lolz… I thought it was just gonna be some cool video. Ahhhh!!! How wrong I was!!! I’m so happy for the both of you and can’t wait to hear all about the experience!! You’re both gonna be wonderful parents!

Haha I’m glad it was a surprise for you then! Thanks for the well wishes.. hopefully I don’t need to update much on pregnancy-related stuff, as it’ll mean nothing crazy is happening, lol..

CONGRATS!! πŸ™‚ I can’t rem what your cousin said once and I asked if you were preggers! Haha. I was right! Am so happy for the both of you. Feel free to ask about pregnancy/parenting if you want! (not like I am THAT experienced but will be glad to share!)

LOL was it recently? She may have already known but had to keep the secret, heh. Any plans for #2? Would love to know more preggo women in Singapore, heh

yes rather recently πŸ™‚ And rem I wrote sometime back to ask you as well? But I can’t recall when that was. haha. (may be an excuse but pregnancy + being a mother make me forgetful!)

We definitely want more kids. No fixed plans about when yet though! You can join the Singapore Motherhood forum. There should be a thread for those due in the same month as you. Quite fun to ‘go through’ the process with others, esp for the 1st child.

In the meantime, sleep as much as you can. And oh, do all the baby shopping in the 2nd trimester! Some women get too tired by the 3rd.

Take good care :)))

We want more kids too.. but I guess we’ll see how our first one goes heh. Where is the SG mum’s forum? Too bad I’m not there so I can’t really feel as connected boooo.

OMG OMG OMG

congratulations bev!!!!
i’m so happy for you πŸ˜€

I knew it was a baby but I didn’t know whose! I thought it was Erica’s. No wonder she said “not at liberty to say”.

Congrats! Do you think you would lean more towards a boy or girl? I know you will love to death whichever way it goes, and I know you probably want to say “I just want a healthy baby” but, really… come on…! One that you have a preference over just a LITTLE bit?

Err that’s not an easy question to try and force an answer out of, as we want both equally. Don’t really care at all, just want both or either one! Perhaps it’s only when you’re pregnant you truly feel that a healthy baby is the top priority and something as silly as the gender doesn’t even come on the radar

Congrats on the great news! I love the way you announced it:D I am also expecting my 3rd kid, now at 23 weeks. It will be so fun to have kids at around the same time:):):)

I’ve said this on Twitter, but I’ll say it again:
CONGRATS, Bev (and Chris)!
Oh and hey, your baby gets to travel to Europe at such an early age! so lucky! hahaha

Hahah I didn’t think of it that way! I think our baby will be a traveller once it’s born though, since we have to go to at least SG and AU πŸ˜›

Just viewed your video from my PC This morning.. Have to say this again.

Congratulations!! You’re really lucky not to have any nauseas as it can be really yucky! πŸ˜‰ Enjoy the rest of it. πŸ™‚

I guess you never know.. i could get full-blown nausea for our second child, eek! Errr fingers crossed hopefully not, heh

WOW CONGRATULATIONS!!! That’s really awesome news, very happy for you. Also good to hear you haven’t had a lot of the horrible symptoms e.g. nausea. :o)

Hi Beverly, I’ve been a silent reader of your blog for sometime now. Enjoy reading your food review, shopping and life in general. Congratulations to you and Chris, and I’m sure the both of you will be good parents πŸ™‚ Take care!

Haha, I knew it before I clicked. πŸ˜‰ Congrats!

It’s wonderful after all of these years of reading your posts to hear you speak at length. I can see why they pay you the big bucks as you have great communication skills and make people warm up to you in few words. I was so glad to hear you haven’t had morning sickness. Best wishes for the rest of the pregnancy!

I look forward to seeing pics of baby shopping and to watching the changes in your life. This will be a very welcome and cared for child. πŸ™‚

May I also join in with the flood of friends to say CONGRATULATIONS to both you and Chris! How exciting and wow, it must have been hard to keep it a secret from your little (huge!) online family. You’re such a tiny thing that not a single person would have guessed especially with the recent formspring questions regarding children that you answered as if you weren’t pregnant! Sneaky Beverly! πŸ˜‰

I’ve felt very lucky to watch your life blossom as I’ve followed you online and am so happy for you. Best of luck with your pregnancy… glad to hear everything has been going so well for you so far… and can’t wait to “meet” the little one!

It was haaaard not saying anything, but funny how I was getting q’s on family/babies, heh.

Thank you very much for your nice words! *hug*

congrats! i’m 17 weeks pregnant myself so we can see each other through the same journey πŸ™‚ 2 more weeks till i find out the gender. can’t wait!!

Coooool! are you blogging it? if not you totally should πŸ™‚ We find out the gender when we get back from Europe on 30 Aug. yayyy

Bev congratulations to you and Chris!! Very epic indeed!
All the best with the pregnancy and the little one!

OMG OMG OMG

congratulations bev!!!!
i’m so happy for you πŸ˜€

gwEnzilla <3

We’re lucky it’s perfect timing (in my 4th month) even though we booked the trip way before I feel pregnant.. so couldn’t be more relieved/happy!

Congrats babe! If we ever find ourselves back in SG at the same time, our kiddies can have a playdate (okay getting ahead of myself here)!

True, that’d be mad fun. You’re only about 2 weeks behind me I think, and the girl down below here is about 1 week ahead of me. All so close πŸ˜›

Congrats!

Congrats, Congrats!

Whew! I breathed a sigh of relief towards the end of yr video when you said that you were seeing a German lady doctor at Parkway Medical in Shanghai. I keep thinking that those China hospitals & China doctors & nurses are not as professional as those Western trained ones. The state of their China hospitals is also very questionable as China doctors depend on under the table commissions from patients to get things moving.

Good choice on a private western hospital & doctor!

All the best & don’t stress yourself out!

Re: Congrats!

It’s actually a very interesting point – China, as you can imagine, are *really* good at delivering babies. Some hospitals will do hundreds/month. But you’re right in that a little money helps if you’re an expat.

From what I’ve read/heard the service is still very professional, and clean. Come hell or high-water, they’ll do everything they can to get the baby out safely and healthily. BUT, from what I’ve heard they don’t focus on things like primary care, or giving you that unique special feeling. From what I’ve read/heard it’s all very mechanical, quick, and efficient. So they won’t tell you the sex of the baby, the C-section rates are much higher (60%), the father’s not allowed in the consultations or delivery room, and if you need neonatal care, the baby gets carted off to a big room full of other critical babies. So if you want to know the sex, you’ll have to negotiate with your ultrasound technician. If you want the father there, you’ll have to pay much more. If you want to see your baby more, there’s likely some way to negotiate with the nurses.

For other expats in China, there are also other mid-range options. China-run VIP clinics catered to expats. They’re similar to the China public option, just with a little more flexibility, and some broken English.

Obviously we just went with the expat clinic. They cost about 10x-100x more, but it’s worth it for us.

Re: Congrats!

Ya a lot of people were shocked and nervous when we told them we’re having the baby in China – they immediately assume I’ll give birth in a dirty roadside hospital or something. Little do they know Shanghai is incredibly advanced now and especially in the Western clinics, it’s really top notch (unfortunately 10x more expensive than hospitals in Western countries).

But we had no choice but to go Western, cos of our lack of Chinese skills! πŸ˜›

I knew it was a baby but I didn’t know whose! I thought it was Erica’s. No wonder she said “not at liberty to say”.

Great news, Mrs Bev; Congrats to your husand and yourself.
I guess the Bouillabaisse will be the first and last one of many years ^__*
Btw, I am very happy to have noticed that you make a stop in Cassis, take a swim in the Sugiton or Sormiou calanque, you will never forget it
Now we need wait 5 months to know if it is a pretty girl or a handsome boy…. ~__~ Good luck Mr T

Thanks Mr T!! Heh yeah the Europe trip will be our one last jaunt before we really settle down.. so looking forward to it πŸ™‚

We’ll find out gender in 4 weeks, yayyy

Congratulations to you both! Now you can eat lots more without feeling guilty – “I’m eating for two now, okay??” =D

LOL I’ve been saying that!! But then Chris points out “It’s more like eating for 1 plus a wee peanut , haha”

Amazing news Bev, I can see the joy all over your face. πŸ™‚

Wow a bit late to the party but CONGRATULATIONS! I guess the food blog is going to morph in to a parenting blog pretty soon. Anyway enjoy Europe I think it’s going to be your last big trip for a while, perfect timing though.

We’re lucky it’s perfect timing (in my 4th month) even though we booked the trip way before I feel pregnant.. so couldn’t be more relieved/happy!

OMG! Major congrats! I must be super slow because I don’t suspect a thing πŸ˜› I thought it might be a promotion or something ? LOL maybe because I ‘think’ I have the impression the baby stage will come when you guys move to Singapore later on…

It’s very exciting indeed and I really feel very happy for you. It’s like while I only know you online, but I was here to see you graduate, found your first job, got married, went for your honeymoon and now you are gonna be a mama! It’s so nice to see you creating amazing milestones in life. πŸ˜€

Can we now have the “guess the gender” bet ? πŸ˜›

Ps so funny when you mentioned the made in the china bit πŸ™‚

That’s awesome news, Beverly!

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to you and Chris!

I’ve been an avid reader of your blog for years and years now and I am so very happy for the both of you πŸ™‚

Congratulations to you both! Now you can eat lots more without feeling guilty – “I’m eating for two now, okay??” =D

LOL I’ve been saying that!! But then Chris points out “It’s more like eating for 1 plus a wee peanut , haha”

That’s wonderful news! I think you’ll both be awesome parents! It’s good you’re taking your vacation now – it would be a little more involved with a baby in tow.

You have a charming accent, btw. Not thick Aussie – just a shmear of Aussie.

Funnily enough we booked Europe agggges ago, way before all this. But WHEW it’s perfect timing to travel in my 4th month.

And thanks!

Congrats once again, happy family! As for the last sentense, yes we know who we are, but we just wait and see and learn from your experience first ;P

When you got up to show your tummy I thought for a moment that you gonna flash. Hahahaha. That would be epic. BTW do you plan to have a pregnant photosession aka Demi Moore later on?

For our friends that we want to be pregnant as well, I’m thinking about a ritual much like those you have at the wedding. Instead of a bride tossing the bouquet, it’d be the new mother tossing… actually, forget that thought.

LOLLerskates!

And nah, dont think I’ll have photography of me and my big belly. But when the baby is born, most definitely!

congrats! you’re so lucky to not have any “morning” sickness. looking forward to the lovely posts on the different stages of your pregnancy. enjoy it! it’s the best experience ever πŸ™‚

A lot of people keep telling me I’m lucky to not get nausea, and I know it’s true, but it also made me quite nervous for WEEKS, cos I always thought something was wrong as I didn’t feel pregnant! At least now I know it’s all ok πŸ™‚

Can’t wait to hear what you guys are having!

We booked our Shanghai hotel today πŸ™‚ Doing the Shanghai Hilton…I think that’s its name. My bf got a corporate code through work. It was that or something called Longemont. The Howard Johnsons you recommended were really nice but too $$$ πŸ™ We’ll be there Sept 15-18 πŸ™‚

Oh nice!! Though I thought HJ hotel would be cheaper than Hilton.. can’t believe it’s not eek.
You’ll have fun here and in Sep the weather is soooo much better

It’s like 910 CNY/night which my boyfriend says is someone’s monthly salary. He wanted to do a Chinese hotel but I am kind of off those since the one we stayed at with our summer abroad program in Beijing was super sketchy.

lol would be so random but so cool to run into you in Shanghai! Though there are gazillions of people!

Nooo the Shanghainese here would earn at least 7k/month RMB or so… at least the office workers too! I’d be a bit worried about the totally Chinese hotels too…. the more $$ would be ok I think though, but you’d at least want to hear great reviews online first. Oh, and just beware, the beds are mega hard!!

Amazing news Bev, I can see the joy all over your face. πŸ™‚

I feel like I’ve watched you grow up…even though I’m a bit younger. lol

Congrats to the both of you.

Congratulations!! eee, I totally guessed it before the video! It makes those formspring questions about babies all the more funny too. πŸ˜€

I KNOW!!!! It was so weird people were asking me all these baby-related questions, before I even said I was pregnant, lol

That’s amaaaazing news, CONGRATULATIONS! You (and Chris) must be so happy and excited. NOw I’ll look forward to your LJ entries even more, heh, as you go through this new and different stage in your life :)))

Happy with you

These are wonderful news, I’m happy for you guys and wish you aaaall the best for your pregnancy! I’d love to read a review on chocolate with pickles some time ;).

Your voice is so cute btw πŸ™‚

Best, Elisa

I knew it! I knew it! Congratulations Bev and Chris! So happy for you two πŸ™‚

Btw, I have not watched the video yet because my iPhone wouldn’t let me. Now the video is still loading on my laptop. I saw your update on twitter and got a gut feeling that it’s about this and I was right! πŸ˜€

Congratulations!!!

That is wonderful news! Congratulations to yourself and Chris. We have an almost 2 year old – it’s bloody hard work, but you’ll love every second of it. Well, maybe not the labour part πŸ˜‰

OMG!! Congratulations! A baby will be amazing, it will change your life entirely but for the better. Just make sure you catch up on your sleep now because after the baby is born, you’ll have none! Wow a bit late to the party but CONGRATULATIONS! I guess the food blog is going to morph in to a parenting blog pretty soon. Anyway enjoy Europe I think it’s going to be your last big trip for a while, perfect timing though.

It’s so nice to see you creating amazing milestones in life. πŸ˜€

Can we now have the “guess the gender” bet ? πŸ˜›

Congrats to you both! So happy for you two!! :):)
