I’m a total carb-aholic. I just can’t get enough of pasta, rice, potatoes, etc, and have been known to merrily chow down on 5 bowls of white rice with my dinner before I feel “satisfied”. And so I’ve been eyeing (the oddly named) Egghead Bagels since they opened recently, gagging for my bagel fix. I LOVE bagels because they’re so more-ish. Apparently each bagel is equivalent to 5-6 slices of bread, so perhaps that’s why it appeals to me πŸ™‚ They’re definitely filling!

I order the Breakfast set, even though it’s well into lunchtime. Kudos to them for having an all-day breakfast. It is an outstanding deal – just 40? (under $6) and you get:
* orange juice – not freshly squeezed but still good with pulpy bits inside
* coffee or tea – my coffee was basic, but tasted good
* bagel of your choice – I got a garlic one, loved it!
* cream cheese – to go with your bagel. The portion is SO PATHETICALLY tiny it only went on half my bagel πŸ™
* 2 eggs – I had mine scrambled. Simple and nice
* sausage/ham/bacon – I chose sausage. It was a simple cheap Chinese mini sausage. Tasty though

I wouldn’t say it’s gourmet food, but it fills you, and it’s good solid food. I mean, what do you expect for the great price?! If I’d paid any more I’d be grouchy, but since it was cheap, I thought it was great value and the food was decent for the price.

They should have Blueberry bagels though, those are by far my favourite. Also, I was flummoxed as to why my takeaway bagels (10? a pop, double the price of Haya’s) did not come with cream cheese. Since they’re double the price, I would have expected cream cheese to come with it?! And so for that reason, I think they’re stand alone bagels are heavily overpriced, I’d much rather Haya’s bagels at 5?.

They serve C’est Cupcakes so of course I eagerly bought one – banana cupcake with chocolate icing. The icing was delicious – creamy and very chocolately. But sadly, the cake was so so so dry! It was so dry it was crumbling everywhere, absolutely not what a cupcake should be. Either C’est Cupcakes don’t know how to bake cupcakes (which is a bit concerning) or Egghead Bagels let them sit overnight and sell them the next day if their daily batch don’t sell out. Yuck. Would never purchase again.

My very decent breakfast set for only 40? (under $6)

My friend’s set. Oddly, less food but more expensive at 50? ?!

C’est Cupcake’s banana cupcake with choc icing. Cute but dry.

the best part about buying bagels at shops is because they slather on loads of cream cheese! (and then i have an excuse to eat lots of fat :))

mmm, so hungry for a bagel and lox right now!

Blueberry bagels are the best. I used to buy them from Mio (with extra cream cheese!) along with a Starbucks hazelnut latte for brekkie all the time. At least I think that’s the name of the cafe. You know, the one across the street from the office?

hey I am a carb-aholic too! except I don’t really like potatoes! back then when I had a part time job at Wagamama, I ate two big ramen-size bowl of rice with curry sauce after my shift (usually around 10 or 11 pm)! and I love bread as well..i like Asian style buns, like those from HK or Japan! πŸ˜€ they are not the healthiest but at least they taste good!

Oh i loooooove potatoes, creamy mashed buttery kind πŸ™‚

I’m with ya – I like Asian bread. Regular western sandwich bread is so dull, no flavour πŸ˜›
