Friends, Parties, Uncategorized BARBIE CAFE PARTY 24 January 2010

I just love the Barbie Cafe. It’s a female’s fantasy – all girly yet sassy. Love the hot pink and black and silver theme and the cozy bar area. It converts into a fabulous bar/nightclub by night and was the location of choice for the Shanghai Dolls party. Surprisingly, it was around 50/50 split between men and women. When I talked to various groups of guys, I found out that many were gatecrashers, or dropped by, after hearing that it was a women’s party. LOL!

Was a good night – great to see lots of people there. Unfortunately, I didn’t win anything during the lucky draw, d’oh! But the party was great for people-watching – lots of beautiful people. Has anyone noticed how there seem to be so many beautiful people in Shanghai? They’re everywhere! Makes me kinda glad I’m not single, or I’d be a definite Fail considering the competition, heh. Also tons of good looking guys, but none as good as Chris. Okay fine, I may be biased πŸ˜‰

The only downside was that the Barbie Cafe were seriously understaffed. It was a 20 min wait for a drink, since there were about 250 people and 4 bartenders. Why would they be so stupid not to staff-up, knowing the numbers?! Also, no one liked the drinks – the cocktails were all really sugary and unexciting. A shame, because if they had done it properly, it would be the #1 party venue for me.

Duh, just saw the comment above. Ok, next question then….why kind of perm is it? Last time I had a perm it ended up all frizzy so I vowed never to do it again. But yours looks so nice! Is it easy to manage?

It’s a ceramic perm I believe.. quite a standard one πŸ™‚ I love it, curls look soft and feminine IMHO and it’s a nice change from straight hair!

I do need to use serums and curl cream in it though, but otherwise, I don’t use a hairdryer at all which is great

I love your hair! Very cute, and the clip is gorgeous! πŸ™‚ How did you manage to get the curls in your hair to stay like that all night? Looks lovely!

CUTE dress!!!! I love Review πŸ™‚

I love the falsies too, very Barbie!

BTW, I like your perm so much that I went and got one too over Christmas πŸ˜› I’m finding it annoying to keep curled though πŸ™ I’m normally super lazy and pre-perm I sometimes even forgot to brush my hair in the morning, but I had super straight hair that always fell into place so it was ok. It’s a bit interesting having to put hair wax in every morning and twirl it around to dry! (I gave up on blow-drying after I gave myself a frizz central) Do you ever manually curl your hair again (e.g. with tongs/straightener) to get more bouncy curls? I’m worried that if I try, the curls would end up looking really weird.

I’m a fan of Review too, just wish they were cheaper!

How awesome you got a perm too! After I wash my hair, I put in a leave in conditioner and let it airdry a bit, then a curl cream and twirl with my fingers, and finally when it’s almost dry i use a shine serum. NO hair dryer or tongs at all!

That said, if I go to the hairdressers for a blow-out, they blow dry or use tongs and it looks fab πŸ™‚

Ooh, thanks so much for the curl cream tip. I just listened to the hairdresser and used wax + oil on the curls, which worked well but sometimes I put too much wax in and it looked funny.

I went out and bought some curl cream, and after using it on my hair, the curls now look wonderful!! I tested out with just the curl cream, and the curls were still really curly even the next day. So thanks for the tip! πŸ™‚

Whee glad it works for ya! I love schwartzkoff (err forgot the spelling). I use the pump bottle one in number 2 and adore it. And I use Josie Maran’s argan oil as a serum/oil and it makes my hair super smoth and the curles really defined πŸ™‚

Never seen your hair like that before. Cute!

BTW, sorry to bother you like this, but how cold is it in Shanghai right now? My hubby has to go over next week. We checked the weather forecast, which averages at a high of 7 to 8 degrees Celsius. Problem is, being from equatorial Singapore, we really have no clue as to how cold that is. Would 3 layers (shirt, sweater and coat) be sufficient?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks πŸ™‚

It is COLD here. Yes the 3 layers are fine, but make sure the coat is thick. Also best to bring some gloves and a beanie – as it gets freezing at night. Also, remember an umbrella!

Finally you wrote this party review. I need to write one for the website too.

We look awesome on those photos. Good way to compare photographers’ equipment and skills (mainly). The best photo of us is done by David from CityMoments.

Cocktails were lame. Eewyn got a terrible headache after his whisky-coke.

I love your whole look!! – the hair, the dress so so cute

I’ve already scheduled the House of Barbie into my itinerary to my bf’s dismany even though my trip is still months away. hehe

May and June!! (Hopefully it doesn’t get too hot) Meeting his grandparents eep

oh and you HAVE to tell me where I can get massages hehe

Oooooh! You look so sweet in that pink dress!! The colour goes very well with you! I can’t believe though that there were only FOUR bartenders for 250 guests!!!! What’s a party without a good number of bartenders to “tend” to a party goer! 😐 Which is why I prefer parties where you can be your OWN bartender! LOL!!!!

Awesome, thanks. I remember you posting when you got it but couldn’t remember the brand! I might have to go to Review tomorrow and see if they still have it πŸ˜€
