pretty sure it’s not pidan (aka thousand-year-old egg)

It’s not century egg because it says “five spice” on the right. 五香 FTW!

My mom is from Taiwan and loves these little eggs. She usually eats them with rice porridge. They are century eggs. I think they smell funny… I’ve never tried it… when my brother and i were little, my mom told us they were “dinosaur eggs”. LOL. We still refer to them as “dinosaur eggs”.

ohhhh i’ve had ’em in porridge! like chopped up in lil pieces. it’s not bad cos there’s no taste, just adds some salt to the dish. I don’t know if you’re meant to eat these as-is out of the packet though?

They do the vacuum sealing to a lot of foods~
My friend and I had this random drunk Chinese guy try to pick us up by offering us a packet of vacuum sealed chicken feet! 😛

I agree that they’re probably century eggs. I like them but they are kind of an acquired taste I believe. You’ll see they’re green-ish, brownish and seems even more strange when you open it. They put it in a pork congee and I think it’s really yum! I probably wouldn’t just eat them totally on their own though. Best with some rice porridge or congee. Ask a co-worker maybe?

I think it’s a bit weird it’s not fresh, but in a sealed packet? Does it make it taste weird since it’s an egg cooked heaven knows when, then sealed?

nope its all preserved. it’s like a fragrant hard-boiled egg. 🙂

If its the Taiwanese version which is something like aged braised egg, they call it 阿婆鉄蛋 .

it looks like century eggs…

the words on it is xi(happiness).. the usual word you will see on weddings.. did someone in office got married? hee

Ohhhhh!! Hmm but i dunno if anyone got married haha. Maybe it’s just from eBay to make sure the staff are happy?? haha!

Hmm I’ve never leard of lu dan, nor chicken rice eggs!
It kinda looks too scary to eat tho.. so it’s just sitting on my desk 😛
