FASHION, Uncategorized RAY CHAN LEATHER SATCHEL 19 March 2009

Took a break from French designers and decided to buy a bag from a Taiwanese designer instead. AZN PWR or whatever they call it now, heh! I actually did it for retail therapy, or at least that’s my rationale πŸ˜‰ To cut a long story short, I was catching the bus to work in the morning and there was a bunch of us waiting – maybe 10 or so, not that many. When the bus came, a middle-age/old guy was alongside me. Generally, you’d think ‘ladies first’ since he wasn’t a doddery old man, right? WRONG! He obviously felt a huge case of self entitlement because he quickly SHOVED me out of his way with his elbow. A bit shocked, I said “WATCH IT” and put my arm out right across his chest, so he couldn’t board the bus before I did. Mean? Probably, but I can’t stand people that are just spontaneously rude and shove others (also should note he shoved a mother and her young child out of the way to get to where I was).

He started babbling out all sorts of (I assume) Chinese swear words at me, whilst trying to shove me harder to get my arm out of the way. NO-GO, YOU STUPID PIECE OF SHIT!! So I boarded first, much to his anger. So when he got on behind me, he decided to give me a *whack* on the head. Yep, nothing like physical violence at a woman to show how civilised and educated you are, mate. I turned around, livid, and he saw my face. It must’ve had I WILL KILL YOU written all over it, because he quickly pushed his way to the back of the bus, as far away from me as possible (and yes, shoving and elbowing others out of the way in the process).

Lovely way to start off the morning, eh? Sadly, this is actually common here. It’s completely strange, but there’s this whole population of rude, revolting people.. and there’s also another population of very civilised, helpful, wonderful people. Not just my colleagues, but great people off the street that help me out when I look lost, waiters/waitresses that are smiley and patient with us when we order in our stuttering mandarin (and clever sign language), and just all-round decent, genuine, awesome people. I guess you get these 2 kinds in any country, but there are a LOT of the former kind here – most of which are the middle-age to old folks. So sad.

ANYWAY. Rant aside. So I was fuming during the day and at lunchtime went for a spot of retail therapy. Went into a Japanese/Asian stationery type place and they had the softest, smooshies bags by some Taiwanese designer called Ray Chan. I’m currently undergoing a satchel obession (bought 4 satchels in the past 2 weeks alone, oops!) because they’re practical, and OK if I bang em around when I walk around or take the bus. This one was so soft and SMELLED ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! I keep huffing and sniffing at it… the calf leather smell is intoxicating. Yes, I’m a weirdo that likes sniffing leather handbags πŸ˜‰

You can click on the link below to view more pics, or see more of Ray Chan’s collection. This particular satchel is actually for men, but it’s awesome and a great bang-around bag, so it’ll do!

OMG, how bloody rude and uneducated of him to cut queue and whack you!!! Good on you for not letting him through and for showing how pissed off you were! Hope there’s no swelling on your head πŸ™

Yes, I have a horror bus story from Yunnan where this woman kept hitting me on the head and/or kicking me in the shin because I took ‘her seat’. (Apparently because her friend sat on the seat in front, it gave her the right to the seat behind. Sigh) I kept glaring back and trying to look aggressive, but alas I don’t think I can manage it πŸ™

The satchel looks great! Hope you keep it safe though (my practice was to keep it in front of me at all times), many pickpockets around and some carry little pocket knives to slice and dice for your purse…

It’s so sad that there are so many crap people in China to ruin your day, even though most of the time it’s such a great place and most people are wonderful!

Arghhh i would be SO grumpy too if i were you… people like that piss me off πŸ™
So far no pickpockets, whew, but i did hear that they’re common, scary!

I did want to but he ran off to the back of the bus.. bleh. And people like that think what they’re doing is normal/correct too, so they just don’t understand they’re being wrong and a rude prick. Sad!

I hear your frustration.

Whenever i visit Shanghai, i morphed into this strange person i don’t know – i walk doubly fast, i ignore strangers who tried to talk to me on the streets and pretend i don’t understand what they are talking about, i rushed to get onto the MRT train (their doors start to close so fast!!) and don’t laugh but i literally had to out-run some idiots who are obviously snatching my cab.

On a happier note, your apartment is beautiful! I love it!

Take care gal! πŸ™‚

YES you said it perfectly!!! Sometimes I don’t even know who I am anymore.. I get the scowl when I’m out and I automatically assume the worst in people. It’s sad πŸ™

OMG! I would have been so PISSED! I don’t think I can live there without my blood pressure going up if I have to deal with people like these on a daily basis!

How do you find the Chinese guys who work for you/under you? I used to have two Asian guys (migrated from China) reporting to me and they were male chauvinists. They wouldn’t take instructions from me and it was hell working with them. I was told its an Asian thing where the Asian men would think themselves better or above the Asian women. They had no problems reporting to a lady boss as long as she’s not Asian.

I’m trying really hard to take all the rudeness in my stride, but it IS difficult :X I think in the office we’re all fine, cos the people are all international, and if not, open-minded. They’re all pretty awesome actually, which is great! πŸ™‚

Wow! I cant believe he whacked you!
Going to a uni where there’s heaps of Chinese international students, I am not surprised by the rudeness of those people really!
I’m Chinese myself, but I find Chinese people from overseas.. to have less manners. I dont know why though.

I don’t know whyyyy they’re like that, it’s so weird. I think because SOME are like that, more and more have to do the same or they end up getting nowhere. It’s so sad πŸ™

He actually whacked you??? Wow. As its mainly older people who behave like that do you think it has something to do with the Chinese reverence for elders, so the elders think they can behave however they like and younger people have to put up with it?

Not really.. i think that only applies within families. Out on the street, it’s like a free for all WWF show πŸ˜‰

the bag looks really slouchy and nice! but abit masculine though. haha!

and you shld have smacke the guy on his head! bahh.

Yeah, and you don’t get worried about them getting dirty or people rubbing up against em either! I love the leather on this one too πŸ™‚

Good on you for standing up for yourself. Don’t give in to nasty people like that – I would back you in a fight any day πŸ™‚

Man i SO need you there! No one would shove a tall white girl out of the way, and then I can just hide behind you, heheh

Someone pinched my bum at a club once and I turned around and socked him. Well, maybe not that hard, I slapped him twice. Then a couple of men next to him were like “good job” haha.

Hhehehe i’d say that to you too! But my friend’s fiance did the same thing to her when they first ‘met’ and look where they are now πŸ˜›

Oooh hellll no! That infuriates me to read that. I know exactly what you mean because it happens here in CA too and I will punch a fool! HAHA πŸ™‚ I hate the mentality some Asian men have. Ugh!!!

I reckon the shits you get CA ain’t got nothing on the guys here too.. the middle-aged/older women are even worse, they feel like they’re entitled to be queen or something, and will shove and push blatently. It’s like they have no sense of human behaviour? Tres weird!

Ohhhh those guys ain’t got nothing on some of the people here.. I thought those kinda SGeans were the worst too, now they seem almost saintly , hehe
