We’re now regulars at the Bavarian Bier Cafe, I think πŸ˜› And Mum and Dad love it too! You can’t beat a giant (and I do mean GIANT) pork schnitzel and fries, plus a schnapps of your choice, for $15. And they do a mean schnitzel too, it’s all thin and tasty and crusty and oh so delicious. I love it with a big soft pretzel that’s dusted with just the right amount of salt. They should give a nice garlic/herb butter instead of the plain version though, that would be sublime!

Wine and beer

Big warm pretzel with butter… mmmm

Pork Schnitzel

Meat platter :)~

The cutie water brings out the free schnapps, proudly ringing his (loud) cowbell, LOL!

Khacha Thai has got ridiculously good reviews online, and it’s just near the corner of my new place.. so I was keen to check it out. Surprisingly, I found out it was a Western-style restaurant. It serves Thai food, but has got wine glasses on the tables – which often sends off alarm bells in my head that it’s just over-priced food attracting the everyday Aussie that hasn’t a clue about authentic Asian food. It was further reinforced by the fact that almost every table there were Caucasians *gulps*…. But you know, the reviews ARE good! So off we went to try it out.

Turns out that my suspicions were totally unwarranted. The food was brilliant! And the service just wonderful. They were friendly and incredibly helpful, and not pushy at all (I often fear these sort of restaurants because they push and push you to order all sorts of dishes and wines, etc). Every staff member was genuinely friendly and polite, and very attentive.

At first glance, the menu seems to offer fairly standard Thai fare. But it’s their specials section that set them apart. Unique names, unique concoctions, and fabulous flavours. Every dish was presented beautifully and I loved the jumble of colourful vegetables that came with some of the dishes. The portions are really sizeable too, which off-set the cost.

A fabulous, hearty meal. I’ll definitely be back! And it’s 10% off if you takeaway.. and considering I live just round the corner, guess what I’ll be doing next time πŸ˜‰

Inside Khacha Thai

The menus

Candle holder

Duffy Roll – Roasted duck stuffed in soft pastry with brown sugar orange sauce ($8.90)
Favourite dish of the night. This was sublime!!!!

Closeup of the juicy, tasty ‘lil morsels

So Healthy – Stir fried five colours medley of vegetables, tofu, cashew nuts, shiitake mushrooms and oyster sauce ($16.90)
Nice, but if it were up to me, I wouldn’t pay for a plate of veggies πŸ˜›

Rump Steak Curry – BBQ rump steak topped with creamy curry sauce ($16.90)
They should have used sirloin, but the flavour and the curry was great!

Crispy Deep Fried Snapper – with minced chicken, ginger and shallots ($28.90)
This was such a big dish, it stuffed us to the brim. Yum!

One of my favorite parts about good chefs is their presentation. But the best of course is the deliciousness of the food! *drooling*

Hehe I often judge food by it’s cover πŸ˜‰ If it looks good, I’m more likely to be happy with it, haha!

I don’t mind the BBC Schnitzel. It’s big, tasty, but a bit too soggy for my liking. It’s just not one of those really crisp type schnitzels which I like. The Schnitzel at St James on the other hand, much better in my books! Bit less tasty but crispiness x10!!! And it’s more juicy too. Though chasing down that big ol’ BBC schnitzel with a green apple Schnapps is heavenly πŸ™‚

Ohhh weird I’ve never found it soggy?! Maybe you got a bad one πŸ˜‰
But yes, the St James one is bloody fantastic too, and for only $10… mmmmm

*drools all over schnitzel* And oOoh Kacha!!!! The Duffy Rolls are awesome, but you have to try the Roller Fish, Chicky & Nutty and Spicy Prawn toast. SO good! Their specialties are amazing!!! Maybe we should go when Matt gets back!
