FOOD, HOLIDAYS, Melbourne, Uncategorized MELBOURNE: more food! 5 May 2008

Under the persimmon tree at the hotel

With mum!

Really strange and random food back at Springvale

Asian central!

Mum’s amused with the token white-guy πŸ˜‰

Dudes paying Chinese chess

Making fresh Vietnamese rolls

We had a lovely one with roast chicken

Checking out all the authentic Vietnamese fare like rice noodles, sweets, etc….

At Prahan Markets

How gorgeous are these cupcakes?!

They were like $8 each or something though…

Fruit madness

At Soda Rock Diner – a USA retro-themed cafe!!!!!!! WE LOVED IT!!

Decked out with pin ball machines and booth seats

The all-American menu

1940s style (working) jukeboxes that played awesome oldies

Strawberry thick shake ($5.95)

Root beer float ($5.95) – my favourite drink in the whole world, I was thrilled to find it here!

Oh YUMMILICIOUS

Hound Dog – old-fashioned hot dog with tasty cheese, grilled onion, sweet
pickle relish, American mustard and ketchup ($8.95) – was FABULOUS

Hubcap – Our most popular burger, with a beef patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles,
sweet pickle relish, mustard and mayonnaise ($7.45) – juicy and delish!

American Pancakes – Just like Mom used to make! Two light, fluffy
pancakes with maple syrup and extra creamy vanilla ice cream ($7.95) –
they look pretty normal but OMG they were so nice and fluffy!!!

Very happy πŸ™‚ I love Melbourne!

I didn’t, cos they didn’t look like they’d taste good.. too much icing and fancy stuff! I generally don’t like cupcakes you buy outside, unless they’re super duper moist and warm…mmm

yeah, most cupcakes that aren’t homemade are pretty foul. i’ve had the crabapple cupcakes before and it’s 50% or so of icing, so it’s sickly sweet. they’re so nice to look at, though.

OOh. i love root beer float too. since they no longer have any franchise on this little red dot, i make sure i have my fix when i go to msia. and your mum’s bag looks interesting!

Root beer’s hardly available in Australia too πŸ™ I miss A&W so much!!

Hehe mum’s bag has this cute flip flops embroidered on it. Great for travel!

all this food. you never let up, bev. I LOVE IT. though i wish your posts didn’t make me so hungry.

p.s chris is the token white guy…

i cracked up because seriously, i am like the token ASIAN girl over here. lol

I remember trying Soda Rock once but wasn’t that impressed. And you can just buy A&W root beer from Asian grocery stores to make your own float! We made A&W coney dogs the other day, but unfortunately forgot the root beer float. Bleah!

I really like their food, plus the whole concept rocks – Sydney should have it!

Making your own root beer float ain’t the same πŸ˜‰

Soda Rock! I used to treat myself there once in a while…especially after papers and before clubbing….

Awww…I just wanna move back soon!

Wow, really LOTS of food! Heh. πŸ˜›

I’ve always wanted to visit Melbourne. Looks like a truly lovely place~!

We were fortunate we had nice weather, cos Melb’s famous for their crap weather (like London)… so make sure it’s nice when you visit! πŸ˜›

Mmmm that food looks good! And those cupcakes are gorgeous, I need to make some that look like them hehe. πŸ™‚

Mum prefers Sodarock’s burger ‘cos there’s more salad in it, but I prefer Bite Me ‘cos they’ve got more interesting toppings! And the hotdogs are both gooooooooooooood :)~
