FOOD, HOLIDAYS, Melbourne, Uncategorized MELBOURNE – breakfast & markets 30 April 2008

Chris and I flew to Melbourne for half-a-week to meet Mum and Dad for a short holiday. It was much-needed after the whole Switzerland+Singapore trip debacle…… ;(

The purpose of the holiday was specifically to EAT. And boy, did we eat!! We ended up having about 6 meals a day (breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, supper), plus snacks in-between. We probably ate our weight in food each day.. and became FATTIES πŸ˜‰

The food in Melbourne is awesome. Loved the cafes, loved the restaurants, loved the markets, loved checking out all these new places. We were blessed with sunny, warm days.. so there goes the theory that the weather in Melbourne is always dreary and crap!

Anyway, I want to do the Melbourne trip as a photo-blog since no one’s interested in me babbling on, so I’ll post in pieces as I upload photos!

Expansive living room

Room overlooking the skyline

Master bedroom

Breakfast at The French Quarter Patisserie

So quaint with al fresco seating

Selection of sweet pastries

Buttery, savory goodness

With Dad!

Chilling out and waiting for our breakfast. LOL at Dad & Chris wearing the same-coloured clothes

Sausage roll – I loved how the mince was home made and it wasn’t oily at all!

Roast vegetable and mushroom scroll – this was SUBLIME. So good we had 2.

Chocolate croissant – weirdly in a bun instead of the normal flaky pastry. Nice though!

Lovely coffees to wake us up

Me and Chris πŸ™‚

YUM the food’s arrived!

Being strange..

Then it was SHOPPING time!

Victoria Markets.. one of the largest markets I’ve ever seen

The delis were incredible.. was so tempted to buy everything!

Sausages = my favourite food

Tons of stalls selling fresh seafood

And loads of meat too. But strangely, loads of VERY WEIRD animal parts

Ewww!! It was almost enough to make me go off meat. Almost.

Lollies πŸ˜€

Cookies & biscuits galore

said I HAD to try the Spanish Churros

She was right. Best churros I’ve ever had, FAR better than the stuff in Sydney

And that’s the END of the first part of the day….

Let's Chat!

Beautiful place to stay! Looks so relaxing, so peaceful… A great place to recover from the autopsy – I mean meat store. Bleech.

The rest of the food looked awsome πŸ™‚ I love coffees like that…all pretty, foamy… yum.

Told ya the churros were the best! Man I miss Melbourne so much. If I didn’t move to Sydney I’d be living in a spanking new fancy apartment 5mins away from Vic Mart and you could have come to visit! Then again I probably wouldn’t have been married to Merrill…

Hehhehehe that would be awesome if you were in Melb. I dunno if I’d live in Melb though, I don’t really know anyone there so Syd is still my fave!

aww…I miss Melbourne muchies! Am so glad I’m going back there for (at least for now)a holiday soon.

You should really head down to Bimbo Deluxe, this quaint Pizza place over at Brunswick St, Fitzroy. Serves too cute pizza for a good price!

Don’t ever miss out on North Fitzroy, it has loads of character! And also the best crossiant in Melbourne!

LOL the name is hilarious! I don’t think we walked past it when we were @ Brunswick St… grrrr.. it sounds cute, I’d have loved to check it out!

Wow, very jealous of kayeby who posted above they live near that market!

Sounds like a lovely trip, although finding that market is certainly a highlight. Yummy!!! As always, your photographs are superb and you have an amazing eye for what to capture so the reader feels as if they were there with you.

The markets were the best shopping.. the fresh food there was amazing! I really wish I lived right next to them too πŸ˜‰

You can go and buy super fresh seafood and meat and whatnot anytime you want, soooooo jealous!!

Sigh… I miss living in Melbourne. The place truly shits all over Sydney in terms of character. I miss Churros, I miss Vic Marts! Did you try the awesome hot dogs at Vic marts? It’s the store opposite the candy shop (or the corner one just down from it). The hot dogs there are absolutely awesome. By far the juiciest gourmet hot dogs I’ve ever had!

Man.. those churros.. I would be SO FAT AS A PIG if I lived there though… food’s too good.

I didn’t try the hotdogs but I did stare at them for a good 10 mins. Arghh you should’ve told me to get one!!!!!

Churros for all

You can buy churros at a few places in Sydney including the Sydney Aqaruim ,,,the distributer is Foodlink I think
