I used to go to Fitness First too and then I stopped coz I am a “poor uni student” but am thinking of trying to go back again. How did you calculate your body fat %?? Did you have personal training sessions there?
I’m all inspired now after your post – might go for a jog around the block now – force some of that winter time muffin top fat to take a hike away from my hips (and I mean away from my body – not to another part fingers crossed ha!)
anyway any tips on calculating body fat % would be great
FF is definitely 🙁 I don’t do the prsonal training as it’s even MORE $$.. I just used my scales to do body fat %, you should be able to buy them at home/lifestyle stores.
Good luck! It’s TOUGH getting fit/losing weight though.. cos you need to be really comitted.. blah!
Well thanks, but unless I go under 12%, I’m not concerned. My absolute fattest was 18% so 15% is reasonable. Surprisingly enough, I’m actually not stupid and don’t go around setting random ridiculous goals without having first looked into it.

How do you know what your body fat percentage is? I only ask because I have been tested via the Bod Pod (most accurate way) and through fat calipers, and I am 17.6%. I don’t think there is any way on earth you are 17%! I would already estimate you to be 16 or less, when I see how you look compared to me. Also, I want to recommend NOT losing much more body fat… and instead working on muscle growth. Women 17% and under are already considered lean and 15% is considered underweight unless you are a professional athlete..!
I know you are doing your research I just wanted to offer up some info since I am really into the fitness thing as well, and have been working with a trainer. Best of luck in your goals and be safe!

How many times a week do you go to the gym? My boyfriend and I joined a few weeks ago, and we’ve been going 2-3 times a week.
I usually do 20-30 minutes of cardio and then toning (abs/arms/legs) and then finish off with 10 minutes of cardio or I walk home (which takes about 30-40 minutes).
So far I haven’t noticed much, but I feel better about myself. I have more energy and I’m actually excited to go to the gym!
Sometimes I don’t want to go, but when I’m there I automatically change my tune.
It’s weird. I was never one for working out (ESPECIALLY any cardio stuff) but now that I’ve committed myself to it, I want to get the most of it (and my money’s worth)
I’m exactly like you.. paying for a gym MAKES me exercise cos I want to get full value out of it, haha!
Sometimes I’ll go 0/week, sometimes 5/week.. it depends 😛 I try to go at least 2-3x though, for at least an hour.. so I figure that’s not too bad! I think I might either go tomorrow or Sun.. but it’s hard to keep motivated :X

Yikes, isn’t 15% fat a tad too low for women?

No

Classification Women (% fat) Men (% fat)
Essential Fat 10-12% 2-4%
Athletes 14-20% 6-13%
Fitness 21-24% 14-17%
Acceptable 25-31% 18-25%
Obese 32% plus 25% plus
it is actually a tad low for normal non-health-nuts lah….
