“I found a new Malaysian place we can try out!!”, said one of my colleagues earlier this week. WOO!

So we rounded up the troops and headed there for lunch, since it’s only down the road from the office. Delighted, I noticed that everyone had ordered different dishes – perfect for my inner-food-blogging self! So despite cries of “Hurrrrrrry up! I’m hungryyyyy!”, I got all my snaps in quickly before we dug in. I’d say that the food is not 100% authentic, however it’s pretty close and good enough. Food was good, there were no complaints. The only downside is that there are only a handful of (tiny) wooden tables and chairs, so it’s hard to go in a big group.. and they also try and boot you out ASAP after you’ve eaten, so the next group of people can sit down. It’s really just an eat-and-go place, and the prices, accordingly, are cheap.

Our team at work are running some usability tests this week, so I was up at North Sydney to sit-in during one of the sessions. Since I was already there, some colleagues and I met up with my friends at Firehouse Hotel for a (late) dinner & drinks. I love the decor/design of the place – black and red and avante guarde. Very cool. It was pretty full for a week night, I guess people drink every day of the week πŸ˜‰ The very nice guy at the bar recommended us to go upstairs to the lounge area, and he was right, it was really nice! Big plush lounges and a bit quieter so we didn’t have to shout at each other to be heard.

Their star attraction is their $10 menu. I settled on a Chargrilled Porterhouse Steak: mesclun, fries, mushroom sauce. Very impressed with it – the steak was meaty and tender, and the fries were diiiiivine, especially soaked in the gravy. Mmmm! Also picked at the Salt & Pepper Calamari: lime aioli & salad leaves, which was incredibly – the calamari was really tender and soft with the perfect amount of seasoning. Had a few drinks but we were quite strict about it being a quiet night, since we all had work the next day.

I usually don’t dare to order it, because when it’s done badly (which is fairly often), it’s awful! But when done well like what we had, it’s sooooo good :)~
