FOOD, Food reviews, Uncategorized ST JAMES HOTEL, RISE 17 May 2007

Went to St James Hotel on Wed night for dinner with a girl friend. It was basically full, which is quite surprising for a Wed night! We ordered quickly, and I ended up with Fish & Chips – first time ever I’ve not had their Steak and Mash.. figured it was about time I tried something different πŸ˜‰ I was pleased that the meal was still filling – I got 2 long strips of beer-battered fish, crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. And of course, a generous helping of their fries. Easily one of my favourite places for fries! They’re flattish and thick cut, and when drenched in gravy, they’re a force to be reckoned with. Also had the obligatory salad on the side, but wasn’t very interesting. The Fish & Chips are good, but I still reckon the Steak and Mash is better value for money, so will be getting that next time, yet again!

Oh, and Dad brought the digicam to a store and they managed to salvage some of my Rise photos. COOL! Unfortunately, only a fraction of the photos were saved :X But here they are anyway:

Grilled scaloop with rice noodles and green papaya salad

Assorted today’s fresh market sashimi (ocean trout, kingfish, oyster)

Cured salmon with spiced mayo,
Soft shell crab sushi roll,
Spicy tuna tartare in wonton cup

Lingfish tempura, roasted red cupsicum & eggplant ragu with soy “mizore” sauce

Pannacotta with peach granita

You Are Japanese Food

Strange yet delicious.
Contrary to popular belief, you’re not always eaten raw.

Rise is called a mini Tetsuya’s. Tetsuya’s of course is much finer but once you factor in the price, I think Rise ends up the winner

I could go that Lingfish tempura right about now. And yum! Want to try those chips. Next time! We’re going to The Union again tomorrow night and they have incredible chips there too, beer battered…can’t wait!!! Oooh and for the gruyere stuffed zuchinni flowers. *drools*

heh, I got “You are Japanese food” too! πŸ˜›

It’s just a little up the Pacific Hwy from North Sydney (Corner Pacific Hwy & West St), the pub on the corner near the police station. I just put a review up of it from tonight! It took me forever to do as usual! I’m still full from all those chips…I’m such a guts. πŸ˜€

Oooo…I didn’t know you could still salvage *thought to be deleted* photos. Cool! I always delete so many photos…not by choice of course. πŸ˜›
