4 of us hit Ayam Goreng 99 after work. We’d been there barely 3 weeks ago, but felt we needed another Indonesian-food hit πŸ˜‰ This time, the food was (fortunately) less salty. And this time, the Beef Rendang was totally spectacular!! They must’ve only just cooked it prior to serving, because it came steaming hot and the beef meltingly soft and moist. Mmmm… so good. I can’t be bothered to post prices and detailed reviews since I’ve been there so often, and all the food’s good anyway, so not much to say!

Sayur Assam Soup

Nasi Uduk (coconut rice)

Gado Gado

Beef Rendang

Chicken Satay

..and again..

Alpucat

Also, yesterday, I brought a few colleagues to the cool Indian takeaway place @ Hunter Connection. It’s owned by an Indian family and the guy there is soo sooo nice! I spoke with him once whilst I was on the way to work, and bought a Pistachio Barfi (Indian dessert). He was really nice and gave me his card and said they will give me a great deal when I next want to get my takeaway dinner there. Cool! That was 1-2 weeks ago.

When we rocked up, he actually recognised me – how amazing is that?! Then as we craned our necks looking at the assorted sweets and yakked away deciding on what we wanted, he smiled patiently and waited. After we chose 3 desserts, he said “Wait don’t go yet!” and then reached over and presented us with a 4th (free!) dessert. COOL! Was very very happy πŸ™‚ We divided it all up when we were back at work and proceeded to sit down and scoff down the desserts.

Pista Burfi (Pistachio Milk Fudge)
“A delightful example of a traditional Indian milk sweet, where boiling,
sweetened milk is reduced gradually until it thickens to a fudge-like paste.”

Almond Burfi

I haven’t a clue as to what this is, this was our freebie. It’s sweet with
a sort of creamy paste??

Gulab Jamun (Milk Balls in Rose-scented Syrup)
“Made from just milk powder and flour. Fried slowly in ghee until the lactose in the milk
powder caramelises and turns them a golden brown, they are then soaked in a rose-scented,
medium-heavy sugar syrup. Hence, the Hindi words Gulab Jamun meaning literally “rose ball’.”

Your free Indian dessert was a stuffed gulab jaman πŸ™‚ Was it as delicious as it looks? They all look fab, especially the almond burfi. Are you an Indian food fan, Bev? There are so many dishes, you could probably spend an entire day chowing down! πŸ™‚

Love, love, love coconut rice!!! And that beef rendang looks heavenly.

GULAB JAMUN! ARRRRGHHHH! That one looks so GOOD! The Pista Burfi looks fab too, can’t go wrong with milk fudge!!

I know! It beats regular white rice hands down.

I wish the Indian place is open tomorrow so we could have some desserts! Will have to sometime during teh week πŸ™‚

It was just $2.50 which was brilliant! But this particular time, they did it even better than normal, it was so tender :)~

Mmm, I love Indian desserts! I’ve never had pista burfi, and now I’m going to have to look for that. How did you manage to get a free dessert? I never get free stuff at restaurants unless I eat at places where my friends work.

The guy was just really lovely! Think he was amused as us goggling at the desserts and excitedly trying to decide what we wanted. HAHA!
