FOOD, Living in... Singapore, Uncategorized LONG BEACH SEAFOOD RESTAURANT 15 March 2007

Long Beach Seafood Restaurant

Singapore

The night of the wedding, my aunt/uncle (parents of the bride) took 20 of us out for dinner at Long Beach Seafood Restaurant.. and we went kinda crazy over the food. Again! Haha! Long Beach is apparently famous for their super-fresh seafood, flown in from around the world. It’s always, always packed to the brim with diners and they specialise in crustaceans.

We had the pleasure of having our own private dining room. Funniest story of the night was the air conditioning drama. The women were complaining loudly that it was cold, until a clever person noticed the air conditioner control stuck onto the side of the wall. So my cousin got up and set it to a warmer temperature, and it was fine. About half hour later, we noticed it was cold again, and when my cousin went to check the control, she exclaimed “It’s 10 degrees!”, no wonder it was so cold!! So she turned it back to 25 degrees.

Shortly after, a male waiter came in, fiddled with the control, and said something to the effect of the air conditioning being really warm for everyone. Then it hit is – the control that we were fiddling around with actually controlled not just our little private room, but the ENTIRE restaurant… which does require cooler temperatures since it’s so large! We made other diners complained it got too hot. Haha!!! And someone, think my aunt, said innocently to the waiter “Ya, dunno why it’s like that!”.. never confessing that we changed it ourselves. HEE!!

Food-wise, it was all a delight. We were wowed by the delicious food, and so much of it too! Far too much, we couldn’t finish it all, though we did give it our best shot πŸ˜‰ Yummilicious and because it was seafood and fairly light stuff, it meant we could eat as much as we wanted without feeling totally gluggy and ill afterwards. Loved it!

Long Beach Seafood Restaurant

Big tanks of live seafood.. probably watching their counterparts
cooked and being eaten on the tables, hehe!

Table one

Table two

A strange sexy pic on their wet towelette

Claypot Marble Goby Fish in Soup – looks quite
awful but the fish was so sweet and tender!

Giant Clam with Garlic and Vermicelli – OMG THIS WAS THE BEST!!
The clam was tender and the garlic was sooooo fragrant

Close-up. So luscious.

Scallops with Veggies – I liked the scallops but didn’t like the veggies πŸ˜›

Black Pepper Crab – so spicy and tasty!

We told the manager (my uncle’s friend) that one of the crab claws was too small,
so he sent over another one that had a LOT of meat. Haha!

Renowned Crispy Duck – it was tender and tasty, but found it a bit dry.
I would’ve loved it with some e-fu noodles!

Lobster in Garlic Sauce – oooooo this was lovely, and so so so tasty.
I ate 3 pieces (ie. a whole one). Shhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! πŸ˜›

Close-up *salivates*

Fried Rice with Crispy Fish – this was surprisingly so good. The little crunchy fish were delish!

Singapore Chilli Crab – OMGGGGG. I would’ve eaten the whole thing
if no one else was there. It was rich, creamy, eggy and PERFECT!!

Served with ManTou Buns, to dip into the eggy sauce *faints*

Rice Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream & Passionfruit – I really didn’t
anticipate I’d like this, but I really did and polished it all off :)~

ME AND MY DAD! I bought him the tee, ‘cos I like him in light colours πŸ™‚

Ooooooooooooooooo good point, maybe it wasn’t passionfruit cos it was teeeeny and didn’t have hard seeds! But i’ve never seen/eaten dragonfruit πŸ˜›

omfg, this place looks like one of the best you have ever been to. Of course I love seafood, but I have never seen a restaurant with so many tanks to choose from and they appeared to have some things we can’t get in the USA or at least not regularly. I am sure they do fly all those things in. A definite score, although it looks like one of their secrets is just to use lots of garlic which you can surely do at home when you cook seafood. MMMMMMMM.

BTW, the dress you wore to the wedding was stunning! May you still have it in 29 years. πŸ™‚

The tanks really impressed me, esp cos the seafood there were just so mega sized, like the Alaskan Crabs!! I want to go back there πŸ™‚

Oh my gosh . . . I’m so glad I can’t gain weight from looking at food because if I did, I’d be about 900 pounds right now just from reading your journal.

You’re making me crave Chilli crabs with deep fried mantou now! Have you tried butter crabs before? It’s oh so good as well. Merrill just cooked Black Pepper Crab for the first time on the weekend. Tastes and look pretty authentic. Receipe here if you can be bothered trying it.

Crabs are so expensive in Australia though. It cost the same to cook it at home as to eat it at a restaurant in Singapore. Bleah!

I’ve never tried Butter crab but I’m impressed he cooked crab!! I am farrr too lazy to do it and would rather pay, hehehhehe
When you’re next in SG you gotta come to this place and have the chilli crab, it’s the best in the country IMHO :)~

He’s got craving for black pepper crab but I don’t think you can really get it in Sydney hence he tried cooking it himself! I usually cook chilli crab but only when my sister is around to help me kill the crabs coz I’m too much of a wuss to do it!

I’ve been to Long Beach, in fact I’ve been going there since I was young. Jumbo at East Coast is also good. Melben at Ang Mo Kio do a mean crab beehoon dish. They use the thick beehoon and the soup is all creamy and full of crab flavour. So so good. You gotta get there early though (say 6pm) or be prepared to wait an hour or 2 for a table.

Mmm Long beach! My family and I went to Russia & Dubai last summer and actually met the owners of the restaurant… If you ate everything that you described, that really is a lot of food!

Ooo cool! Do the owners live there? And yeah, of course I ate everything that we ordered.. it’s practically a sin not to πŸ˜‰
