My second visit to, apparently, the best Prawn Mee in Singapore. I initially wasn’t too keen, as recently I’ve gone off prawn mee. But then I perked out when I realised when I could try the Dry Prawn Mee. I’d never had the dish dry before and I am SO ANNOYED that I hadn’t, because it’s AWESOME! Way better than the Soup version IMHO. The prawn mee came with a generous portion of chilli and oil at the bottom of the bowl, which you then toss with the noodles and ingredients. A small bowl of tasty soup is also served with it, so you can spoon in a bit to mix with the noodles.

The flavour was fantastic. Not surprising, since this stall is famous for their Prawn Mee.. they’re always packed out with lots of people queuing to order their hot steaming bowl of noodles. You can pay up to $10 for a bowl of Jumbo Prawn Mee, but I actually don’t really like large prawns (they’re tougher and not as sweet as the normal-sized ones) so I settled for a bowl of Prawns and Pork Ribs Noodles for a mere $5. The prawns were sweet, but I could’ve done with more of them, since I was ‘rationed’ with just 4 prawn halves. The pork ribs were juicy and tasty, but again, could’ve done with more of them too. The noodles were perfection – all tasty in the sauce and washed down with some soup.

Delightful, satisfying and ever-so-tasty.

Not totally filled up, we then proceeded to walk around and chanced upon Boulevard Chicken Pie, a small shop that sold pies, pies and more pies. And boy, do they do their pies well! It was initially the smell of freshly-baked pies that irresistably drew me in.. all buttery and fragrant. They sell, what else, Chicken Pies in Small, Medium or Large sizes. They also had Pepper Chicken Pies, but why go for that when the original is always the best?

So I got the chicken pie in the small size – I figured that means maximum pastry-to-filling ratio… and I do like my buttery pastries πŸ˜‰ The pastry was flaky, warm, and really buttery. Divine. I found the filling quite sparse though, which disappointed me since it was so delicious. So why not just go for the Medium or Large then, you ask? Well, because it was the Small that had that flaky pastry, and the larger sizes had that standard ‘meat pie’ pastry that didn’t tickle my fancy as much. Totally sublime though, I’ll definitely buy more if I’m in the area again!

if you like prawn mee dry you should try the one at macpherson. i think it’s called River South Nam Kee or something like that. its the coffeeshop opposite the jackson food center you had your frog porridge & dim sum from.

the bf loves it & has been eating it for the past 18 years!

Ooo my mum just said I’ve been there before, but I can’t remember, haha! I also LOVE wonton noodles, any recs for the best in SG?

apparently, fei fei’s wanton mee is quite good but i’ve tried it several times and don’t find it fantastic :\

Yum! We have no such foods here in the USA that I know of. If we do they are called something else as I have never seen them sold anywhere I have lived or been. I love the photos of the outsides of the shops and stalls as well as the close ups of the actual items you got.

From your prior post, Your moms vintage dresses look lovely on you. She kept them in great condition. I can see the 60s and 70s influence in them, loved the sleeves on the first photo and the colors of the dress in the last photo.

Have a great rest of the trip and eat for us!!! πŸ™‚

Yeah I can’t find chicken pies like these in Australia either.. they’re usually made with the ‘normal’ pie pastry.

And thanks about the dresses! I think they’re really gorgeous πŸ™‚

I haven’t eaten at Beach Rd prawn mee for some time now, but the last time I did, standards seem to have dropped. Some days the soup would be good; other days it was just plain bland!
