Had a quick dinner at Swatau Teochew Seafood apparently famous for their Braised Duck and Fish Head Steamboat. Which was exactly what we ordered πŸ˜‰ The Braised Duck really was special – the duck was super tender and the black sauce it came with wasn’t too salty or overpowering, and it went brilliantly with a bowl of white rice. The Fish Head Steamboat took awhile to come out, but it looked impressive on our table – a big metal steamboat with bubbling soup (it was so sweet!) and chock full of super soft Snapper fish, yam slices and cabbage. I know it doesn’t sound very tasty, but Chinese people like it and it was healthy to boot!

After the meal, we adjourned to the Original Herbal Shop for some healthy desserts. It’s a tiny little shop that sells only herbal desserts, both hot and cold. To our dismay, the service was crap. They were really rude, unfriendly, and annoyed.. it was as if we were there scamming free desserts off them or something. You’d think people would be a BIT more civil and friendly if you were paying them, but nooooooooo, not them.

Anyway, turns out no one was particularly thrilled with the desserts, they weren’t especially amazing. I had Gui Ling Gou (tortoiseshell jelly with honey), one of my newest fave Chinese desserts. I actually prefer it without the honey, because then it’s super herby and a bit bitter, and it makes me feel like it’s more authentic and exotic. Haha. Anyway, at least theirs was really good, so I enjoyed it.

Yeah all the food gets put in and it just boils away.. and you pick out what you want to eat with ladles and drink up the soup. Delish!
