Since it was our last dinner together before I leave for Singapore, Chris took me out to Bombay Heritage for some Indian food. It’s tough to find an Indian restaurant that beats Nilgiri, our favourite, but I’d say this one comes really really close.. and if you factor in the price (ie. cheaper), then it’s better 😛

It’s a pretty small restaurant, filled with diners when we entered. The menu was extensive and pretty reasonably priced, with mains $15-20 a pop. We started off with a Mango Lassi which was more yoghurty and less sweet than normal, it was lovely and addictive 😉

Mains was a mixed dish of Seekh Kebab (Tandoor-cooked ground lamb with garlic & pepper), this was delicious! Like Indian sausage, all spicy and full of flavour. There was also Chicken Tikkah and Yoghurt, the chicken was really tender and went well with the chilled mint yoghurt. The star of the dish, however, was the Lamb Cutlets, which Chris and I agreed was the best. It was chunky, insanely tasty, and so tender!

Also had a Goa Fish Curry – lovely chunks of tender white fish in a rich coconut cream curry. It went beautifully with the Naan bread dipped in and sloshed around in the curry. Mmmmmm!! Also had a serving of Lemon Rice with Nuts that was yummy.

Not full yet and totally impressed with the meal, we decided on some Gulab Jamon balls for dessert. I have to say, I’m pretty sure they are my FAVOURITE DESSERT ever. They beat tiramisu, choc cake.. anything! They’re intensely sweet and swimming in rose syrup, giving it a really unusual taste. The balls themselves are so hard to describe to do them justice – they’re creamy on the inside (a bit like cottage cheese) and deep fried on the outside so it’s slightly crisp. The taste is mindblowingly sweet, but with a very faint savoury flavour from the goat’s cheese on the inside. It’s just DIVINE…. I must have more!!

Hey bev,
speaking of Gulab Jamon, mum came home last night RAVING about them balls. She had just came back from The Song of India(restaurant) at Scotts Road. Said she had THE best gulab jamon and its done the authentic dehli way said her deli collegues, where the syrup is gorgeously infused into the jamon. The food was good too,its just she had to tell me since i’m a jamon fan myself! hehe

They are sooooooooooo good hey?! I’m going to keep an eye out for Song of India.. do you know the address? The link won’t load for me 🙁

Oooh, I haven’t tried this one. Looks goooood! The man and I tried Last Train to Bombay last Friday – the one with the desserts in the windows. It was really good, though the service was a little slow. The desserts were delish, but I think Gulab Jamun is still my fave Indian dessert too!

*drools* The food was delish! The butter chicken had honey in it, which I’ve never noticed before in BC’s before. The cottage cheese Malai Kofta were nice and big, mild tasting but smothered in creamy lightly spiced sauce. The Uttapam (which I love at Malabar) was awesome! It was a little thicker, spicier and more herbs than Malabar. I can’t decide which I liked better…loved them both! Last Train’s though, had the dipping stuff though, you know that spicy soup mix and coconutty stuff? I only remember that coming with the dosai’s at Malabar. I want to go back to Last Train and try more!!!
