Seems a weekend is never complete without a trip to Alice’s. This time, I tried convincing Chris out of it as we were heading into the City anyway and Alice’s is in the opposite direction and really far away.. and also because I’d had a late breakfast and wasn’t very hungry. Anyway, it was a bad move, as I got scowled at and responded to with a curt “NO, I don’t care, I’m the one driving, we’re going to Alice’s!” And so off we went…

Chris actually called earlier at 11:30am as he had the bright idea of reserving himself some Kueh Dar Dar in advance. I was in the bathroom when he called and heard a very shocked and angry “WHAT?!??! You’ve SOLD OUT?? In 15 mins?!”, and I came out to a very unhappy and sulky boy and a “How come they can’t just make MORE if they know they sell out?!” Next time, we’re going to call the day before to secure ourselves some!

Chris rattled off a Char Kway Teow, medium-spicy, no bean sprouts please. And a Chendol to come at the same time”.

For me, this time, I decided to try out the Hainanese Chicken Rice (Hainanese chicken rice with steamed chicken, cucumber, tomatoes, coriander & soup. Garnished with garlic oil, soy sauce & chilli sauce). I last had it (only once before) ages ago.. and I don’t remember being blown away by it. Well, I was this time πŸ™‚ The chicken was slippery smooth and tender, and the rice was just-so. I liked the soy sauce that they pour over the dish and most of all, the ginger/chilli dipping sauce. All washed down with a bowl of hot soup. Mmmmm……… It was delicious and a healthy portion considering it’s one of the cheapest items on the menu.

The Chendol (Homemade springy pandan strands, grass jelly & red bean in coconut milk with shaved ice & rich gula melaka ) was delicious as usual, all icy-cold, milky and sweet. Alice’s does the best Chendol in Australia, I’m convinced.

it was my first time to try chendol at alice and i thought wow, it’s nice!
love the palm sugar syrup at the top (i think that’s what it is)
everything about it is nice.. πŸ˜€

i didnt quite like their rice though, when i had mine, it was really dry and hard :S

mmmmm… that chendol is just divine. It’s gula melaka on top, that’s the proper name, i like it too πŸ™‚

Sucks about the rice, you should’ve asked them to give you another plate with better rice!

completely off topic I went to Kingsford Chinese it was SO yum! we got the Shantung chicken or whatever its called and some beef thing and my friend got the salt and peper calamari (gross) lol but yeah it was YUM im happy i went

Oooooooooooooooo I’m so glad you went!! I love ’em πŸ™‚ That chicken is so good, and their sweet &sour fish is their BEST dish imho. Why didn’t you like the calamari? I havent tried theirs before but was keen to try it as everyone seems to order that dish πŸ˜‰

Oh I dont eat seafood so thats why but my boyfriend and friend (who recommended Kingsford chinese as well) absolutely loved it.
I can not wait to go back. I was truly tempted to get take away for the next day but was talked (or more softly abused due to myself already over eating) out of it.

i’m sooo curious to try out “chendol”, but i don’t know where i could find that stuff. (i live in toronto, canada.) it always looks so yummy on your photos, and you (and the bf) seem to order it all the time so it must be good πŸ™‚

It is seriously SO GOOD… perhaps it’ll be in chinatown? even so, not sure if it’ll be authentic but at least it’ll give you an idea of what it’s like πŸ™‚

Hi there, I visited Alice’s 2 weeks ago after reading about you going there so often. Yum….the food is really good. Had Nasi Lemak and chendol. OMG the chendol is even better than most of the chendol found in Singapore! And they are really generous with the brown syrup.

If you guys happen to be in Parramatta area (i think u stay real far from here), try this restaurant called Temasek. Their chicken rice is really good. Haven’t tried the chendol there though. If you decide to go on fri or sat night, you might have to call them up to reserve a table.

I’m glad you liked it! I love their nasi lemak too

We’ve been to Temasek a couple of times, and yes, I love it there (posted the reviews/pics here), but they’re a bit $$ over Alice’s. Wish I was closer to the place too!
