and also, i worked for Coca-Cola and now Harlequin (Mills & Boon romance novels)…working for a ‘mega-name’ (as you put it ehehe) has a lot of goodwill value…sometimes the spark in people’s eyes and their raised eyebrow is alone worth the fact that you could be making more somewhere else.

and i totally believe it that you’re well-known and established in that industry.

and i’m sure the benefits and perks at ebay are incredibly hard to beat.

before i moved to Harlequin i worked at a smaller company and The Name was something i missed and took for granted at Coke.

Mmm… Coke… πŸ™‚ And yes, I agree that a big brand name sometimes has so much emotional value that it’s worth it πŸ˜›

oh man, i will never get my 6 figure salary if I stay in my current job. My friend got it when he was 24 or 25, so you are right on track!

Guess thinking about what-ifs can be a bummer. I’m sure you will not regret your decision whatever it is.

Your friend’s lucky! I think the other way to make 6-figures is to take on a high risk but high pay job.. like investment banking? One of my older guy cousins does it and he makes an absolute mint! So envious πŸ˜›

well done! it’s great to be wanted! you definitely know you’re doing something right for them to track you down and try poach you. Go with what makes you happy. I mean, if they’ve called now, there’ll be even more calls when you’ve got even more experience and made an even bigger name for yourself in your industry.

this is good news! i’ve no idea how much time you’ve before giving them a reply but hey, congrats Bev! i’m going to graduate soon (cross your fingers ya) and hope i’ll be able to be as successful as you at such a young age!

I probably will within the next few days.. I dn’t like to leave people hanging either way πŸ˜›

CONGRATS in advance with your graduation!!!

There’s no time frame, but I suppose he’ll push for me to decide asap.. so will think long and hard about it over the next few days!

hey bev, im doing headhunting myself so i kinda know how he got ya contact and number πŸ™‚
Dun want to reveal our trade secrets but you should give yourself a pat on the back cos if headhunters do call you up, you are recognised in the industry. *thumbs up*

oh cool! Ahhhh I wish you could tell me everything, hehe. I was a bit freaked as to how he knew so much about me , and even ggot my contact details in the first place! quite unexpected..

definitely a tough decision, but as others have said i guess it depends on the long term vs short term. you probably didnt give us much info so maybe thats why this offer sounds potentially not as stable as ebay- plus you enjoy it there so much!

could you work this offer in your favour to get a raise from ebay? and would it really be much more given your bonuses?

I do love eBay πŸ™‚ Nah, but I can’t ‘pitch’ them against each other like that, I think it’s not really condoned and might really paint me in a negative light :X

It’s fantastic that you are good enough to be earning that sort of salary(if anything it’ll be the stepping stone to negotiating your next pay rise :D), but I guess it depends on if the job sounds like something you want to do and works with where you want to go with your life! Good luck with your decision making, I’m sure you will make the right choice πŸ™‚

The job’s about the same as my current one if not a step up because it includes building a team.. I guess that’s why they bump up the salary. But ugh, i still don’t know. I love ebay πŸ™‚

Career plans

One bit of advice:I think you properly framed the issue when you spoke of “career plans”. Money is important but who’s to say that short-term = long-term. I don’t know all your options but I wouldn’t base the decision entirely on the money.

Re: Career plans

Everything about the role is probably a one-up on my present one, in terms of people management, pay, etc. But it doesn’t have the name like eBay does nor do I adore the name like I do eBay. And that actually kinda means everything to me..if that makes sense

Oh, and more seriously, I think you should go for it. Ebay sounds like a cool company to work at, but there’s not really anything too special about them in particular… right?

Besides, think of all the stuff you could do with a six-figure salary. πŸ™‚

eBay has the mega name.. to be totally honest, working in my particular field in the company makes me famous in the industry.. if I was in any other company, i wouldn’t be (certainly not well-known enough to be headhunted at this stage).. so I need eBay as well. It’s hard to decide!!

But yess………… OH THE SHOPPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LORD!!!!!! πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

Hey Congratulations!

Just remember that opportunities like these don’t come up that often. Remember that if you do leave and eBay have been happy with your performance to-date, who’s to say you can’t rejoin them down the track?

Whatever you decide, I’m sure you’ll make the right decision…you’re gut instincts are normally spot on.

I know. you make a lot of sense.. it’s just so hard to make decisions about my own life! I wish sometimes things were a lot easier and I didn’t have to think πŸ˜›

you’re amazing girlie!
go with your heart i say. πŸ™‚

I’m flying off to sydney in a few hours time! Alright, that was really random πŸ™‚ any recommendations on any places that I must definitely go? I’ve been to sydney but missed out on quite a bit due to rainy weather then. Definitely heading to Paddy mkt though.

Oooooo! lucky duck, the weather here is perfect this week πŸ™‚ def walk around Darling Harbour and the Opera House.. chinatown’s also pretty cool. If you want to meet up for lunch or a coffee or some shopping, drop me an email πŸ™‚

Aww thanks πŸ™‚ But I do think luck played a part as he called me randomly, somehow I was lucky enough for him to somehow have found out about me and called me – I STILL don’t know how he got my details! πŸ˜›
