Fitness, Uncategorized 9KM BRIDGE RUN… NOT GOOD 18 September 2006

I’ve officially buggered up my knees πŸ™

Got up early on Sunday to do the 9km Bridge Run with Chris. I was really looking forward to it – clear blue skies, lovely sunny weather, a great workout. Turns out, it wasn’t meant to be.

Half-way into the 9km, I felt this weird twing! in my knee. It was quite a bizzare feeling, so I stopped suddenly and stood there for a second. Then I figured, “oh well, just keep going” and sprinted off again. The instant I landed on my right leg, everything collasped and this burst of pain shot right up from my knee. It was so sudden, so intense and so insanely painful that I saw stars and just *gasped*. Chris finally managed to help me off to the sideway and I stood there, unable to move, for ages. I kept waiting, hoping it’ll go away so I could run again.. but after awhile, it became really obvious that I couldn’t even WALK properly, let alone run. So we ended up sitting down in the sun in the Botanic Gardens, overlooking the water.. and Chris got us a yoghurt and mocha to sip on. Felt much better resting in the warm sun.

My right knee’s worse than my left, and HURTS SO MUCH when I try and walk up/down stairs, or if I twist my knee even just a little. Basically even hurts when I lie down in bed and try and sleep. So am currently drugged out and worked from home today, as there was no way I could make it into the office.

Went to the doctor and apparently it seems that my knees have a soft tissue tear.. so it’s leaking liquid, hence the pain. Doc said leave it rested till end of week, if still painful he’ll refer me to specialist. And apparently he expects me to sit on the couch alllll day long for the rest of the week! I haven’t decided if I want to do that just yet, I might go insane.

Boo.

Awwww yes, but you did great!

Do you work at MS? My boyfriend Chris works in the Sydney office and I used to work there 2 years ago

ooh, knees. Precious things. Soft-tissue injuries take ages to heal. I ruptured my ACL 5 years ago in a ski accident and had a reconstruction. It’s all good now, and I take Glucosamine with MSM (joint food) to help – just in case.

If you’ve had a partial tear, an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon will tell you for sure. But you can’t really get anything surgical (if thats even necessary) done til the swelling’s gone down. Although, you could possibly hasten the de-swelling with acupuncture.

I know it’s boring.. but there’s not a lot you can do for now – you really need to rest up!

Ouch!! That sounds so painful.. yeah, I think glucosamine can’t go wrong for me too.. I hope I won’t need surgery, etc though :X

I hope your knees heal up completely and fast..

Anyway, I’ve been having having weekly runs with my other half and only just discovered that doing things together really do strengthen the r’ship. Duh! =P

Your 1st picture is almost diabetic. Hehehehe.

Oh you poor thing!! I hope it gets better soon! *hugs* I have a really weak right ankle and wrist which both twist and hurt REALLY easily if I’m not careful, it really sucks but after a while you learn how to cope with it so you can minimise further harm, which is good.

I’m trying so hard to rest and not move, but it’s tough! And tomorrow think I’ll head in to work.. nearly went insane today by myself at home, sitting on the couch :X

man… that sounds really painful! *whinge*

try to stay on your couch as much as possible… rather go slightly insane than having a longer time recupperating. =)

Eeeep! Maybe you can go have it checked out by an orthopedic surgeon again to see if there’s anything that can be done? Hope you get well soon, Bev!

I did that to my knee once too when I did ballet years ago …

Be good and make sure you don’t walk too much this week!!!

I know how it hurts. Hope there isn’t any staircase or whatsoever anywhere near your apartment & office …
