Pho Vietnamese
Down the road from 8 Quay St
Haymarket, NSW 2000

I randomly popped into this Vietnamese restaurant as I walked past, since it was packed with people. It’s just down the road from Cafe Joy, but I can’t remembere the exact address – sorry! Cheery and fairly modern-looking, I initially was a bit unsure as to whether they would be authentic. But the owner and waitstaff were Vietnamese, so I rested easy πŸ˜›

Quickly decided on Crispy Skin chicken with Tomato Rice – a staple of mine. It’s easy to differentiate between good and bad Vietnamese when you always have the same dish πŸ˜‰ To cut it short, it was fantastic!!!!! By far one of the best I’ve had, it ranks up there with Pre-Pho @ Eastwood, if not better. The chicken was super plump with a lovely flavour, and the skin was really crisp with no fat or excess oil. Loved the dipping sauce too – a sort of fish sauce & chilli mixture, with just the right amount of kick and flavour. Just perfect. The tomato rice wasn’t too sour but was just mildly flavoured.. it went well with the clear broth that was served with the meal. Happily, every table had a mega flask of hot tea which was on the house – brilliant! It was cold and raining outside, and after the meal, my belly was all warm and filled and happy. Delish πŸ™‚

Ohhh I checked with my colleague, she says that this dish is available but not popular here – what’s popular is tomato rice with beef cubes. I think I prefer the chicken version anytime!

Oh there’s nothing better than filling up your insides with warm food while it’s raining outside! What a great idea to have the complimentary flask of tea!

Me too, I think it’s not TOO bad either.. since it’s not really greasy like KFC, maybe because it’s fried so quickly? And love how the chicken’s all fat and juicy, yum!

I’ts REALLY nice.. I like it more than fried rice I think. I drank gallons of that tea since it was there, hehhe

ever since u recommended me the crispy chicken rice at pre-pho, i’ve been going there so often just to eat that coz the chicken is so soft and juicy! along with the garlic butter prawn noodles *yum! that one looks just as nice πŸ˜‰

Yes it’s lovely there! But I like this place more now, as it’s a lot more central for me to get to..

pre-pho’s garlic butter noodles are so yum hey :)~ I also like their Beef rice-noodle soup with crispy skin chicken.. or with pork chops. Yum!
