Ferrets, Uncategorized ‘STAR’ THE FERRET 27 May 2006

Hello. My name is STAR.

We’d been thinking of getting another ferret for quite a while now.. Considering I’m at work most of the day, it was a bit mean that Misty was alone at home. Ferrets are meant to be great for working people since they sleep 18+ hours a day, but I still felt guilty I could never give her the companionship that only another ferret could. I was keen on getting a ferret that needed a home, an adoptive ferret.. because it’s just a nicer feeling to give an abandoned ferret a good home πŸ™‚

I was looking at The NSW Ferret Welfare Society and they had a couple of ferrets up for adoption. I was after a young female ferret.. and then I saw the prettiest little black-eyed white. I called the guy and arranged a visit. When Chris and I saw her, we fell in love. Little Star was just so endearing we knew in an instant that she would be perfect. Since the vice-president of the society was looking after her while she was looking for a new home, her personality was perfect and she was so well-trained we were pretty amazed. His 5 ferrets (inclusive of Star) are all trained to work with handicapped children.. kind of like when dogs/cats/etc are taken around to hospitals.. so her disposition is really quiet and sweet. She’s really really placid and calm and likes nothing more than just sitting on my lap, curled up and being stroked.. pretty much exactly like a cat. Even Misty isn’t as docile, she just wants to prance around and play! πŸ˜›

But both Star and Misty have pretty similar personalities, they war-dance and jump around to play and are just hilarious! Misty’s still a bit iffy though, she sees Star as competition I guess.. so she’s a bit jealous. But Star’s totally nonchalent and just keeps trying to make friends with Misty – it’s really sweet. So I have 2 baby girls now.. and they mean everything to me πŸ™‚

All pooped out after her big day

They’re antics are sooo funny and they’re less than a year apart, so I’m hoping they’ll get along really well!

They look like they’ll be fine… Though I must admit, I don’t know a lot about ferrets, this is making me want to look into them though, do a little research, they seem to be a wonderful pet!

she’s REALLY placid.. which is nice. but maybe it’s only ‘cos she’s new to the place, maybe in a few weeks she’ll be plain raving mad too, haha!

awww, so cute! esp. the first pic. and congrats to winning the contest πŸ˜€ it must be awesome to have eternal glory like that, lol.

Thank you! I think most people would forget about it in a few days but it still means a lot to me πŸ™‚

Hey, Star’s an appropriate name considering your performance at the fundraising dinner the other evening! =)

I really love her fur.. and I think I much prefer the black-eyed whites than the red-eyed ones.. those kinda scare me :X

Re: Cute!

I’m glad I got a ferret that needed a home rather than one from a breeder or pet store.. plus Star’s a total sweetie!

awe…she’s so cute! another ferret and soon you’ll have 3 like did! That’s a lot of poop and naughtiness for them to get into!

I must refrain from getting 3! I like even numbers anyway, so hopefully i’ll stick with 2 haha. I need a bigger place to have any more πŸ˜›

My one and only encounter with a ferret was probably at least 10 years ago, now. I was at some place (might’ve been the easter show), poked my finger into The Ferret’s cage, and the little bugger bit me. If I recall correctly, my finger bled a fair bit, and I went to see a doctor.

Haha.. must’ve been a badly trained one! They really shouldn’t bite at all, unless they haven’t been nip-trained or they’ve been illtreated πŸ™

Mmm… okay. Well, I’m not a vegetarian, so I guess it would be a bit rude of me if I complained too much when animals decide to bite me. They kind of have good reason to.

In other news, I checked out bill’s this morning. It was my last night at work last night, so me and a guy I work with went there for breakfast. I was a bit disappointed with the ricotta hotcakes, because I couldn’t really taste the ricotta in them, but the scrambled eggs were the best (so creamy and smooth!) I’ve ever had. We got a bit stuffed – had two dishes each…

OH haha same.. I’m the furthest thing from a vegetarian.. food’s too good imho πŸ˜‰

I think ricotta doesn’t have a taste anyway?? I thought it just made the hotcakes more dense and moist.. not sure. bill’s scrambled eggs are famous, I want to try and recreate them :)~ Did you try the corn fritters? Love ’em! But boy.. 2 dishes each for a breakfast is a lot, haha!

Yeah, the two dishes turned out to be very difficult to finish, but we did it. I didn’t try the corn fritters. Next time I will.

I want to recreate the scrambled eggs, too. I made the chocolate self-saucing pudding from his recipe, last week. It turned out quite well!

Oooooooooo i haven’t tried the choc pudding but I have it in my bookmarks, I think on Sat morning I’ll try making either the hotcakes or scrambled eggs.. one step at a time, hehe

She’s quite a sweetie! Right now she’s curled up on my lap and fast asleep.. and misty is still bouncing around like a crazy ferret, haha!

We’ve already bonded which I’m so happy about.. πŸ™‚ She falls asleep on my lap now and really trusts me, it’s a nice feeling πŸ™‚ I hope Misty and her become best friends soon!

awwww…congratulations! she’s sooooo cute! i still think in a perfect world, your ferrets and my bunnies would be best friends. hehe πŸ˜€

Hehe that would be fun πŸ™‚ I think they’d annoy your bunnies though, by bouncing all over the place πŸ˜‰

She’s adorable! Although I’m guessing Misty probably wouldn’t be too happy at first having to share all her stuff (and attention) with her. πŸ™‚

So cute!!!

Emily’s next to me now and she keeps saying ‘rabbit gai gai‘..lol!

gai gai means go out to have a walk πŸ™‚

Awwwwww Emily’s so adorable!!! And yeah, they do look like a rabbit, kids always get Misty confused when I took her out in public, and called her anything from a “rat” to a “rabbit” to a “cat” πŸ˜›
