Charity, FOOD, Uncategorized MILLION PAWS WALK 21 May 2006

Woke up early today to go to the Million Paws Charity Walk – a 5km walk to support and raise funds for the RSPCA – my all time favourite charity πŸ™‚ I was a bit disappointed to find out it really was a walk.. I’d initially figured there’ll be runners there but everyone really was only walking! I kinda power-walked a bit though, so felt a bit more satisfied πŸ˜› We ended up walking almost 10km in the end, since Chris had the bright (?) idea of parking far faaaar away so that we could get extra exercise, *lol*!

It was fun seeing all the adorable dogs and we saw everything from the tiniest little doohickeys to the most massive of wolfhounds. Made me wish I had a dog. Also made me wish we’d brought Misty! But I guess it was just as well we didn’t, or she might eat the dogs πŸ˜‰ It was incredibly perfect weather too – really sunny but not hot, and not too windy. Had a lovely time and I’d do it again next year!

Decided we needed to eat before we could exercise.
I had sausage sizzle (YUM) and Chris had egg/bacon roll.

Massive dog

Another massive dog

2 tiny dogs with.. umm.. an interesting-looking owner

Walking around the park

There was entertainment and competitions too

Went to Fajar @ Kingsford for lunch afterwards..
Their Nasi Goreng with an egg was FANTASTIC!!

With chicken, cooked Indonesian style.. mmm..

Pre-Pho Vietnamese & Chinese Restaurant
261 Rowe Street
Eastwood, NSW 2122

Pre-Pho has the Vietnamese-food in Sydney, IMHO. Chris and I are addicted to the place – the restaurant is small, simple and cheap – just perfect. The ladies working there are always smiley and the food is served at lightning-speed, terrific! I’m sure all the dishes on their extensive menu are great, but Chris and I only ever have these 3 dishes:
1) Sliced raw beef with rice noodle soup (Pho)
2) Crispy-skin chicken with tomato fried rice
3) Stir-fried prawns with garlic butter noodles

This time, I had number 2 and Chris had number 3. The Crispy-skin chicken with tomato fried rice is always (and I mean ALWAYS) perfectly done. The chicken is fat and juicy with a crisp skin but soft moist meat. And the tomato rice isn’t too sour and is just fluffy enough. Served with a bowl of complimentary soup, it makes the most amazing meal. The Stir-fried prawns with garlic butter noodles is also always a winner – we like it with the “thin egg noodles, please” which are always cooked al dente and the garlic & butter sauce is TO DIE FOR!!! So luscious and probably utterly sinful, but oh-so-good :)~ And the prawns? We’re talking TEN prawns in the bowl here, all crisp and fresh. Yummy. Also served with a bowl of their appetizing complimentary soup.

Anyway, decided to cook tonight since I still had some Fillo pastry from making the Spinach Pie the other night. Decided to make a Chicken, mushroom, leek & capsicum wrap.. which actually was dead easy to make, considering I was just fudging around with various ingredients and chucking them in together!

Making the wraps to put in the oven

Chicken, mushroom, leek & capsicum Fillo wraps, served with fresh salad

Chicken, mushroom, leek & capsicum wraps (serves 4)

500g chicken breast, sliced thinly
100g mushrooms, chopped
1 small leek, sliced thinly
Half red capsicum, sliced thinly
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 cup cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon parmesan cheese
2 teaspoons chopped tarragon leaves
Fillo pastry
salt/pepper

1) Brown chicken in oiled frying pan
2) Add leeks, capsicum, mushrooms and cook until tender
3) Add sour cream, mustard, cheese, tarragon, salt/pepper
4) Alternate 4 fillo sheets with olive oil spray
5) Place some of ingredients on pastry and wrap
6) Spray tops with olive oil and bake 180c for 15 mins

I love any dish with phyllo pastry in it ! I’m really tempted in trying your recipe it looks really good.

your LJ is probably the reason why i can never diet. πŸ˜› the interesting looking woman reminded me of xena the warrior princess, but erm, a meatier version.

I don’t know why you even bother eating out when everything that you make looks SO good. I would totally cook more if I had your cooking skills!

That 1st massive dog pic you posted looked absolutely scary to me. -shudders- Great food pictures as always. My stomach’s having some rock concert in there.. =P

Wow, you are so charitable…you do walks/runs and go to charity balls. Anyhow, all the pictures of food look great – especially the wraps that you made.

I don’t really like it when I’m in SG.. the chicken’s so pathetic and tiny! At this place, it’s really plump and huge and juicy :)~~ not sure if it’s like that in M’sia tho, but the chicken makes all the difference IMHO, haha!

I have never had it here in Malaysia…must go look for a Vietnamese restaurant when I next go to KL. It’s what I always ordered whenever I visted a Vietnamese restaurant in Sydney!
