pink. if you get the full size, get the smallest gb because larger ones are quite bulky. especially for jogging! i never realized how bulky they were until i used my bf’s. i would say stick with the mini for its compact and sleek size.

I didn’t realise the larger gb ipod was actually physically larger than the smaller gb ipod! Yeah it’s too big for me anyhow.. I’m using it mainly while on public transport and jogging, so small’s the way to go πŸ™‚

I bought a normal one when they first came out.. this was like at least 2 years ago! haha. I adore it though. I don’t like how the mini ones feel plastic-y, but they are smaller, which might be more convenient for you. I take mine everywhere, the battery lasts for ages, and it holds a lot more songs.. I have the 20gb one, and it’s almost full. haha. The minis only hold around 1000 songs, so depending on how much music you want, or how often you’re prepared to switch it.. I just add more and more until I run out of room, then I delete the old stuff. hehe.

I hope my ramblings help you in some way. ;D

Have you held a shuffle? I found that real plasticky and was worried it would be flimsy! I think I’ll see how the mini works for me then ‘upgrade’ to the full size if I have too many songs – can’t imagine more than 1000 though, lol!!

I was really interested in getting an iPod too…however the downside to it is the battery and once the battery is dead, it means that your iPod is dead too, ie. you can replace the battery through Sony, but it costs the price of a new iPod. I was told that depending on how often you use it, the life span is approximately 3 years.

I’ll probably get one later on if they decide on allowing consumers to replace the battery. For the time being I’m sticking to my minidisc player even though the technology is a bit older it still does the trick!

As for the iPod mini, shuffle or full size, it’ll depend on how many songs you’ve got that you want to download, I’d probably go for the mini because it has the screen where you can see your playlist as opposed to the shuffle. If you’ve got heaps of songs, then go the full size.

Yeah I heard about the dead battery thing! But apparently you can pay an extra 60 bucks or something and bump up the warranty for 5 years, and that sounds good..

APparently Apple lost a lawsuit about this btw!

I’ve got a 40Gb iPod photo and love it. I got it for the photo storage thing too, though. The mini’s 6Gb is more than enough for most people. That is around 1500 songs!! It takes a long time to build up a collection that size.
If you like pink or blue get the mini since it’s cheaper as well.
But there are so many accessories you can buy to jazz up any ipod. I got a speaker thing, a car adapter and a voice recorder for mine.

I love my Pink Souffle. Honestly, even the 4GB is more then enough for me because I land up repeating my favorites playlist. But now it comes in 6GB, so it’s even more storage for you. But if you are a hardcore music fan, you might really want to consider the full size iPod.
If you want something for excercising, I honestly think the iShuffle is a better bet. Lighter and more convenient.

I have a 1 gb shuffle. I use to listen to music and podcasts in between home/office. It has 240 songs, which I never hear more than 20 a day while travelling. It’s extra light. Most of the time I don’t feel it’s presence at all. I stick it in my running shorts pockets when I go jogging, in my shirt pocket (yes I have to wear shirts now) while mrting. Every night a few hours before I go to bed, I stick it into my mac and reload another 240 random songs and recharge it. While in the office, I listen to the music on my laptop.

Of course, there is the HELLO KITTY IPOD MINI.

ARGHHH!!!! I’d love a Hello Kitty branded one!!! *grin*

You’re right tho, the shuffle is so light it’s practically weightless πŸ˜‰ Is it sturdy even if you drop it though?

I’ve only dropped it once but since it’s not a hard drive in it I don’t think it matters. Get another one when it breaks LOR!

Hhaah I don’t have that much disposable cash to drop and re-buy! πŸ˜› I think it’s like a usb key right.. so you can drop it but maybe not stomp on it or something!

Aiyoh! Don’t stomp on it lah! I just dropped it again today. no damage. just smudge marks since it’s so white and shiny. You can of course buy the hello kitty pocket for the ipod shuffle. πŸ˜›

I’ve had a green mini for ages and I LOVE IT TO DEATH! It has so vastly improved my quality of life, it’s absurd. My only complaint would be battery life (although it lasted me all the way to and from Canberra last time I went) – which I’m pretty sure is fixed in the new mini. I would definitely recommend the mini over a full sized one – Khai got the 60gb photo one, and aside from being bulky, he’s lazy and has less songs on his than I do on mine, so the memory just goes to waste.

Yay for iPods!

” It has so vastly improved my quality of life” heheh! well, if I end up exercising more, I can say that too!

Hopefully the new mini has a longer life battery then.. I saw the full sized ipod too and it’s just way too heavy for me.. I don’t want to lug around a weight when I’m jogging πŸ˜›

Apparently the new mini has 18+ hours of battery life, compared with the original 8ish hours. Although if you’re just using it to exercise you probably won’t notice the battery life – like me, you’ll probably use it for about 4-5 hours a week, in which case you’ll need to charge it roughly as often as your phone.

FYI, I’ve got about 1000 songs on mine (which is all my CDs, and all Khai’s CDs, and some random MP3s from college days) and I’ve used up about 3/4 of the memory, so you shouldn’t have a problem.

Oh – and while the free song on iTunes thing is cool, we can’t download music from the iTunes store in Australia (you have to register with a US credit card to use it at all).

I can’t imagine 8 vs 18 hrs of battery life, so annoying! I THINK 18 would last me a week or so.. err something like that anyway. LIke you said, I do my phone about every 2 weeks (boy that sounded weird!)..

Stupid USA store-only policy πŸ™ I guess I’ll be burning LOADS of cds soon.. haha

I have 2 silver ipod minis, 4GB and 6GB. Get the 6GB, the battery lasts longer! The first mini I bought I used so much that I needed another one to rotate when the battery was low! Especially if you live in the city, it’s nice to have music to get your through the day. I like walking to music, passing people by… like I’m in a movie with background music πŸ™‚

ipod mini 6GB
+3.6 ounces, VERY VERY light (see it in person)
+small and compact
+get the armband
+free “song of the day mp3” from iTunes everyday with your ipod number (located on the back of your ipod)
+if you’re powered by music this is an excellent choice because you can store 1,500 songs

Do you find you use the full 4or 6gb memory? I can’t imagine having that many songs, haha!

I want the armband it looks sooo cool, but why is it so expensive?! UGH!!!! And thanks for the tip about the free song, what a cool freebie!

You can never get enough music, I find myself buying new CD’s every year, or discovering how amazing an old artist is.

The armband is very useful. I never go without it! Plus, when you put your ipod in your handbags… sometimes the earphones snag onto something and your ipod or earphones drop!

You might want to look into Creative players. I have a pink Zen Micro and even if the design is not be as sleek as the Ipod, it’s definitely better quality.

I have this one too! I love it because it has an FM radio, and a record function. And the good thing is that you can remove the battery yourself, making it easier to replace, if you should need to, than the iPod one.

How often do the Creative player batteries last? Everyone seems to have differing opinions on how long the iPod one lasts πŸ˜›

They should last 12 hours, but the players have a function where they stay active after you switch them off, so that runs the battery down quicker. I’ve heard that a firmware upgrade shortens the time they stay active, so I’m going to try that and see if it helps. But even so, mine usually lasts about 6-8 hours as it is, though I usually don’t listen to it for long stretches of time at one go.

The mini apparently lasts 18hrs now, but I want to see if that’s REALLY the case of if that’s just what the marketing team says, haha

Yup. I second the zen micro too! I’ve the white one πŸ™‚ The good thing about zen micro is that you are able to replace the batt for about 60 bucks or so, whereas for the ipod mini, the batt costs about 160 bucks. (well according to that guy from harvey norman where I got it)

I saw a Creative player today! Think it was the one you’re talking about.. I think I like the ipods simply ‘cos they’re so thin and light! Wish they weren’t so $$ though :X

I ADORE my mini! it’s pink, and named ‘Blush’. πŸ™‚

it’s really good, and I think 4GB is enough for me. after all, I don’t listen to that many songs at one go!

get it! πŸ™‚

I bought a normal one when they first came out.. this was like at least 2 years ago! haha. I adore it though. I have the pink ipod mini 4GB, it’s so cool cos I can transfer 600+ songs to it and I can listen to any genre if I want :p. I kinda regret for not getting iPod Photo though, they have recently lowered the price for the 30GB one and you can keep your photos there too! πŸ˜‰

600+>?! That’s heaps! I don’t even think I can think of that many songs to listen to… lol

Your mini would be lighter than the regular ipod photo though right?

I wanted the mini ipod initially. But, I decided to get zen micro instead, since I wanted one that offers the fm radio in it as well. I’m not really picky about sounds and all. It sounds the same to me anyway. hehehe.

Oh radio’s good! I think the ‘call’ of the ipod is just cos it’s the popular one, and everyone seems to have one πŸ˜‰

I have (and love) the original one, the one with the silver casing. Initially I wanted to get the mini cause the pink one is uber cute but finally decided to get the original one cause it has a larger capacity (20GB – around 5,000 songs) and it was only *SLIGHTLY* more expensive than the mini (around $100 difference but I got 20GB instead of 4GB). Having said that, I bought mine in Indonesia so I don’t really know about the prices in Australia, but I assume it wouldn’t be too different.

Why don’t you get the newest iPod instead? It’s the original one (with silver casing) but it now has a full-colour display, and (if I’m not mistaken) it’s integrated with the iPhoto so you’d be able to store photos as well. You can check it out at the US Apple website.

I saw a friend’s original (old verison) ipod and found it was too heavy for my liking! Can’t imagine jogging with that strapped onto my shorts :X I dunno how much lighter the mini is though.. hard to judge unless I’m actually holding both.

The new iPod looks fab, but I can’t imagine using half the features! So I don’t want to pay the extra for it πŸ˜›

I love my pink mini named Billie! She makes long bus rides a lot more bearable and helps me to blade faster and longer.

But I must tell you that my friend’s mini just died on her after a few months. The ishuffle is a total waste of money (IMHO).

That’s exactly why I want one, to get me to exercise for longer! Hopefully it’ll work, haha..

aren’t the minis under warranty though?

I have the blue one named cookie monster…it’s really cute, portable, and everyone here in the US has it. The ishuffle sucks. you can’t see wat songs your listening to, and it’s got a smaller memory. the new ipod has a better battery life. go for the mini ipod, unless you want a fat ipod…

Haha cookie monster, I love that name πŸ˜› when you say better battery life.. is it the new mini that has it, or only the new full-sized one?

the newmini and the new fatter one have a better battery life now, but it’s covered under their warrenty…so you should be good…

I was really interested in getting an iPod too…however the downside to it is the battery and once the battery is dead, it means that your iPod is dead too, ie. you can replace the battery through Sony, but it costs the price of a new iPod. YES, i have it and used it often enough for my run and jogs, either you hang it or buy an arm band. Its not that fragile lah, unless you like to beat your own chest while its hanging on you ! LOL

Heeee!! I will have to try and refrain from doing that πŸ˜› I’m more worried about tripping and whacking it!

ipod mini – the batt life is sucky. fully charged can last me about 3 sessions of gym work. then again the new ones promised longer batt life, not sure how true it is.

i used to leave my mini in the back pocket of my sweats & now that i start to wear shorts, i clip it on my waistband. i am beginning to get really irritated with the bulk. i was contemplating buying the shuffle just last weekend. i think the shuffle is good if you like fuss free hands esp if you plan to do lots of cardio in the gym.

HTHs! πŸ™‚

Z, do you clip on you? I would hate the idea of hanging it on a lanyard on my neck. I did not seem to see any clip accessories either so that made me not get it yet.

I hold it and run. The wire is pretty long so it doesn’t get tangled up or anything. Yups no clip accessories or anything of that sort so no choice but to hold it, but it’s light so it’s not cumbersome.

oh bummer πŸ™ is that the new mini or the old version? A colleague had the shuffle and it was like a toy, so light!

I have a green mini iPod. I bought the 6gb one. I’m using it a lot to transfer data so that’s why I didn’t buy the 4gb. I think it’s a bit tricky to decide to buy the 20gb iPod or the mini iPod. The price difference between the 6gb and the 20 gb is pretty thin. 50$ I think. If you only put music on it buy the 4gb. But then the choice is pretty much up to you. I decided to buy the 6gb because I wanted to put a bit of data on it. I’m backuping files on it. Right now I have like 450 files of music and it’s not even using half of my space! Anyway I’m really satisfied. But you should also consider buying a case. I suggest the iSkin (www.iskin.com)

Yeah I’ll only use music.. I have 6 usb-keys so I don’t really need extra in terms of storage! I LOVE that iskin site, thanks for posting that!!!! *goes off to gawk*

I love my Pink Souffle. Honestly, even the 4GB is more then enough for me because I land up repeating my favorites playlist. But now it comes in 6GB, so it’s even more storage for you. But if you are a hardcore music fan, you might really want to consider the full size iPod.
