I watched that episode of A Current Affair too. I was so appalled when i heard what the professor said. I can’t imagine him as an educator, and what his students are getting from him.

He forgets that Australia was once full of indigenious(sp?) people and not white? And to think that he immigrated from Canada… tsk

Isn’t it almost another form of racism to generalise with terms like “uneducated outback” people?

Sometimes people don’t even realise they’re doing it.

That makes no sense. Racism is race – “uneducated outback” people can be any race. But I fully admit I’m prejudiced against stupid and/or racist people.

Prawns!!!!! *cries*

Wow, that person on A Current Affair is an idiot. And where are they getting their numbers from? I’m sure only 10 people voted πŸ˜‰

Esp when they say it publicly on TV! I can appreciate that some people are racists.. but they’re usually polite enough to keep it privately to themselves πŸ˜›

Will a dog be racist against another dog ? or will a cat be racist against another cat ? so why are human racist against another human ?

We are all part of the human race, only our physical appearance are different. There are reasons why people from the African continents are dark compare to the people of the northern hemisphere, is Evolution.

The evolution of the different skin colours is thought to have occurred as follows: the haired ancestor of humans, like modern great apes, had light skin under their hair. Once the hair was lost, they evolved dark skin, needed to prevent low folate levels since they lived in sun-rich Africa. (The skin cancer connection is probably of secondary importance, since skin cancer usually kills only after the reproductive age and therefore doesn’t exert much evolutionary pressure.) When humans migrated to sun-poorer regions in the north, low vitamin D3 levels became a problem and light skin colour evolved.

The dumb ass law professor apparently didnt realised he is low in vitamin D3 !

Sorry, pauline hanson is so 90’s, we don’t need one in 2000’s.

You know different races can be more closely related genetically than they are within the same race? I saw that on some documentary once, which was pretty interesting…

Heeee someone ought to tell him he’s vitamin deficient, hahah!

O.K. I can say it. Some academics are real strangearooneys. It is strange to me how people in education who deal with the public can be so ridiculous and judgemental.

Only people who lack confidence pick on others.

After 911, citizens in the U.S. are alert to terrorism risks. But the ethnic mix has been here so long that “white” in the not too distant future will no longer be a majority. There couldn’t be an ousting of a minority.

“white” in the not too distant future will no longer be a majority. “

very true. it practically isn’t majority now. well except maybe in places like the Midwest and Plains.

Actually I don’t think caucasians are the majority in the world? i *think* i heard that somewhere.. who knows..

They aren’t, I don’t think. But visit most American midwestern towns and you’d wonder where the color gradient went πŸ˜‰ It’s not always like that, larger areas have more diversity, but..for example, I went to a smallish high school in my average sized city and didn’t see any Asian or African Americans in that school until my senior year.

I can understand more people are on the alert and probably prejudiced considering terrorism is so prevalent now.. but I still expect the common person to have a bit of sense! Ahh :X

Hee totally justifiable though! I’m eating less this week to make up for it, so less food pics I promise πŸ˜‰

Okay, I saw that too. When I saw that lawyer talking I was shocked (at his stupidity). THEN I saw that poll and I was.. speechless? 85% is so much! Wonder how/when they conducted that dumb poll.

But yeah I think being an Asian here does have its disadvantages. I have experienced racism first hand, so that sucks.

That’s exactly how I reacted too, I just GAWKED at the poll results.. funny how they just quickly showed the poll then moved along to the next story πŸ˜›

I actually consider Australia to be one of the least rasist countries, so it’s disappointing to see that :X

85% of Australians believe having non-white people in Australia is dangerous for the country.

Yes, cause all us “colored” folks wanna do is go buckwild and fuck everything in Australia up.

GAH! Stupid people should not reproduce.

People like that make me so angry! >:(

They definetely aren’t a majority, though – just a loud, dumb minority looking to stir up controversy. Sigh.

Meanwhile, fish counts as meat! It’s protein (I think?)…

I actually consider Australians to be the LEAST racist/judgemental out of the world’s citizens, so it’s disappointing to see those stats as high as 85% :O I’ve never once seen or experienced racism! It doesn’t add up..

Hee I think that’s true, fish is sort of meat.. I think I just feel like a burger ‘cos I haven’t had one in ages πŸ˜›

Prawns!!!!! *cries*

Well, Asians may be a danger to their country intelligence-wise but They are a danger to Asians physically since they are the majority in the country.

This is exactly what is holding me back from migrating/travel to another country (esp. angmoh-based countries) esp. for someone who is a muslim these days. =/

You take care over there now.

It doesn’t make sense IMHO! Really ridiculous :X

I think being Asian *and* muslim would be really hard though πŸ™ People can be really prejudiced nowadays..

I didn’t watch that today. That’s interesting.

Actually, I don’t think asians are more intelligent. I’ve seen really smart Australians. But, asians are definitely more hardworking.

Oh well. But, that’s really a dumb thing to be coming out from a law professor.

Yeah I agree.. asians tend to be more hardworking and er.. competitive when it comes to making money and in academics, so I see why people make a sweeping generalisation like that. Still silly IMHO!

Just remember that that is 85% of the people who watch that show and could be bothered to vote in a poll like that. So it’s not representative of the population as a whole. I’m surprised the tv station was allowed to word the poll like that, though! Is that tv show traditionally a very conservative one?

Thats what I was thinking – that show usually lists who is going to be on so people who wanted to see him might make a point of watching (as opposed to people who just happened to catch it on)

And yes, its not 85% of the population…its like running a poll on the jerry springer show, you know? Ever see that show? If you watched that show you would think 85% of the people in the united states are missing two or more teeth… So an audience poll from that show whould be WAY different from a poll on a CNN world affairs program…

You really only get a poll based on the shows audience – on that particular day…which varies…

What can I say….there are people who dont have the brain power or that satay shrimp πŸ™‚

lol yeah Jerry Springer is insane.. i never even knew people like that existed until I saw them on the show πŸ˜›

Esp when they say it publicly on TV! I can appreciate that some people are racists.. but they’re usually polite enough to keep it privately to themselves πŸ˜›
