i remenber asking them whats good (soup) and she was like ummm ” the list is good” pointing at the list on top. i was like what d?

I reckon they must’ve been having a grumpy day!! I asked if the regular noodles was nice, or if the tomato/beef one was nice.. and she started describing it in great detail and was really sweet! Maybe they were PMSing that day πŸ˜‰

hey

i didn’t go to chinatown this year- i couldn’t even walk out of the door- it was too hot.

Xiao Long Bao is pretty good but the service is just… crap.

Re: hey

Is that the ‘fast food’ place at the end of the Chinatown parade?? ‘Cos the girls there were SO nice!! Maybe they have different people on for different shifts :T

Guess what? They opened a ice cream stand here that has a similar concept to cold rock, choose one of the 40 flavours of ice cream, 22 toppings and they crush it together for you. Yum, I had macadamia and chocolate rasberry truffle bashed with cashews. Mmmm!

Wow! You make me miss Sydney now.. πŸ™‚ I used to stay in the city, so Chinatown was only a walking distance. Those places shown on your pics are definitely very familiar.. πŸ™‚ This year I will be celebrating CNY in Vancouver, though. I think the parade will be held on the first Sunday of the New Year, which is still next week.

Happy Chinese New Year to you πŸ™‚

Happy Chinese New Year! The first photo resembles the entrance to San Francisco’s chinatown (my hometown). It’s awesome to see chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year all over the world =] Also, in the states we have something similiar to Cold Rock- known as Cold Stone Creamery. I have to agree the mixed ice cream is SO much better than regular ice cream!! Once you go Cold Stone you never go back haha

My celebration wasn’t really authentic, but I’ll go for a proper CNY dinner when my parents are here next week! Can’t wait πŸ™‚

That Cold Stone place is basically the same, such a good business idea!! I don’t like regular ice cream now, I like this mixed stuff way better :)~

Chinatown is getting crazy here, and there is a mini one growing where I live now..hee hee….

A strange place to find SPAM, I agree. πŸ™‚

In the USA Chinatowns look very much like this although only a few major cities have them. Once a year they tend to have parades for Chinese New Year but I have not ever seen the outdoor food stalls probably because Chinese New Year here is in the middle of the Winter. San Francisco and LA both have Japantown as well. Drool. In LA it’s larger with several places that have sushi on conveyor belts, etc. In the past few years most Chinatowns have expanded to have some Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese places as real estate has become available. I am definitely going to hunt Singaporean food next time I am in LA or SF. πŸ™‚

A number of places in the US offer the ice cream you showed. It is available in two kinds here. The more common is less tasty than what you had and has mix-ins but they basically just toss it in and don’t mix it or stir. So it’s more like a topping or part of the ice cream gets more than the rest. The better places specialize in exactly what you had, although the toppings to choose from may vary. I am guessing it costs more here than there too.

Oh I love those revolving Sushi bars! They’re the best, and so cheap too πŸ™‚

The ice cream is about US$3 here, a bit more expensive than ‘regular’ ice cream, but SO worth it
