That’s how I justify it too – my yearly haircut! It’s totally worth spending money so that you don’t have to spend time getting your hair to look right.

The first time I got it done, I just lurrved how I could go to sleep with damp hair, and still wake up with hair that was poke-your-eye-out straight. The last few, meh. I’ve been going to a coupla honky Blue Star branches – I’ve tried Kensington and Hurstville. They charge $200AU no matter how long your hair is, and that includes the shampoo/cut/blow dry as well. If you choose the Japanese version, it’s an extra twenty bucks, I think. (or it could be $40, I can’t quite remember). I’ve seen some Korean places charge upwards of $400 for a magic straight. *pulls a face*

The last time I got it done was in HK, and they charged me $488HK for it. The guys there told me that now the treatments are slightly different, they were trying to convince me that the perms now shouldn’t be as dead straight as when it first came out a few years ago, coz a more natural look is “in”. There’s 2 types though – there’s (here’s my cantonese) “foo lai jee” – typical TR treatment and then there’s your “yul lai jee” which is meant to be less damaging and moisturising to your hair.

Yeah, I figure if someone goes for 3x $30 haircuts in a year, and gets 2x $150 hair-colour, then it adds up to the same price as mine – ‘cos I don’t do anything else to my hair! So it actually works out the same, ‘cept I spend mine all at one go,instead of spread out over 1 yr.

Blue Star @ Chinatown is not bad, I heard. But the one at Eastwood didn’t do it right πŸ™ Hope PIerre Haddad will be good!

Ooh, I so want to get this done to my hair…but in the UK it’s Β£ 300 which is about $900 ?!?
A helluva lot of money….but it takes me soooo long to get my hair looking neat ‘n’ tidy.

OMG!!!! Have you tried salons in Chinatown?

FOr me, I justify because I don’t cut or color or do anything to my hair. So if you take a girl that cuts/colors her hair, she ends up spending as much as I do in a year, so it all works out πŸ˜€

Wow, that’s really expensive. But I think it sounds like a really good place, with him telling you the risks and giving you that strand test. A lot of places just want to do it for you irregardless and earn your money. One lady even offered to colour my hair on the same day, I don’t think the hair can endure so many chemical processes at a time.

The other places I went to charged the same, but were kinda skittish about it.. they didn’t seem like the KNEW their stuff. So I feel safer at PIerre Haddad πŸ™‚

Yeah, it’s quite well known youo’re not supposed to colour hair straight after straightening! Maybe they just wanted extra $$ πŸ˜›

so expensive! I could buy a really fancy corset with that amount of money! πŸ˜€ I’m so glad my hair permanently looks like it’s just been straightened πŸ˜‰ Except maybe once a year when I’ve slept on it wrong! hehe, be jealous!!

A corset? *makes a face*
You probably look great in it, but I’d look like a nutter. Of course, YOU’RE the type of girl I hate – those with lovely straight hair and all!!!! So annoying!!!! I’m supposed to have straight hair ‘cos I’m asian, but somehow I missed out on that great gene :X

*sees price and faints* $450? The most I’ve ever spent on my hair at one time was about…$120 USD. It was a relaxer and a cut and an extra charge for a hot curl as this hotsy totsy salon. Really wasn’t worth especially since I would need another relaxer touchup in 8 weeks and the service was crappy.

Now I spend $30 for a relaxer and a wash/set/blowdry every week for $12.

That IS in Australian dollars.. but it’s still really $$ I think. But I never colour my hair, etc, so I feel like I do save some $ over the years that goes towards straightening. I also cut my hair every 8-12 months, which helps save!

Ya know, $12/week for 1 year works out to way over US$500! So maybe you can straighten it too and never have to bother with a set/blowdry πŸ™‚

Even with the Japanese straightening technique (which is not recommended for Black hair – something with how our strands are shaped), I would still have to retouch every 8 weeks when the new growth start popping up. But the system sounds lovely anyway.

Oh and the set and blowdry is depending on how I feel that day, If I want bounce, I just take the rollers out and wrap my hair. If I want it fairly straight or if I have a considerable amount of new growth, I ask my stylist to blowdry my roots. All in all, hair is hair and I love it anyway! :o)

I use the Japanese TR, it’s really popular (and one of the first treatments released) amongst Asians. No probs at all! But apparently the HK/Korean versions are cheaper and not as good.. can’t confirm on that though as I’ve never tried that. I do mine every year but my hair is *sort of* straight so the regrowth isn’t super obvious.. I reckon retouching too often can damage the hair anyway, so yeah, good point.

Wish I was born with straight swishy hair!!

Yeah, it’s helluva lot of $$. Apparently it’s not just the cost of the treatment itself – but the fact that your bum is in their chair for 4+ hours, so in that time, they can’t seat another customer. I get it done once a year.. any more often is just a bit too scary. I kept holding out for the price to drop, but it hasn’t in 5 years!

i think if i ever came into some money i’d definitely get it done. πŸ™‚ would save me like an hour everyday for time spent in the bathroom!

That’s my justification actually πŸ™‚ I spend ages straightening my hair with a hair dryer.. and spend more time fretting about it during the day, that I figure it’s worth it to straighten – ‘cos then I just wash and go and just don’t even bother thinking about it or brush it during the day πŸ˜› Lots of effort saved is always worthwhile to me!
