telstra charges a bomb. in my opinion, i think the 120 calls includes the internet calls you make when you dial. is it not? or do they charge that seperately. like mine for example, i use a prepaid internet, but when i dial, telstra charges me for that. and my phone calls a month do go up to a thousand (with my ex roommates). they don’t exactly seperate phone line calls and dial up calls.

Yeah the 120 calls are both normal calls and dialing up to the net calls. But combined, I make 10-15 at most a month, and Ros doesn’t make much more.. which means there are almost 100 outstanding calls that are *magically* charged to us each month ;(

i have had problems with telstra in the past too. and they did charge me quite a bit when i tranfered my old landline to my new apartment. i’m thinking of switching to optus, maybe you should consider that too!

I can’t stand phone companies in general ;( My building is on a Telstra line so don’t think I can use Optus! But I have pre-paid optus mobile and they LOVE deducting money for no reason. For example, i’ll prank a friend’s phone, which is supposed to be free (cos no one picks up and it’s only 1 ring), but they deduct 30c and treat it as a normal call. GAH!

No kidding ;(
Heheh I should hassle them hey! When I have some time I’ll write a letter saying how ridiculous I think it is that it costs up to $200 to get a phone connected.. geez..

I already have one but it’s a pre-paid one.. I think I’ll look around for monthly plans and hopefully they’re cheaper!

I do have a mobile, but I’m worried the cost of using it works out to more than a phone line.. but I make about 10 calls a month all up, so I think I’ll be OK.

it’s a connectiopn cost. Like you get charged 22c flat plus the 30 sec rate.

I’m on the $18 plan πŸ™‚ rish and I gt free calls to each other! πŸ™‚

Oh bleh… so it’s actually 50c for a 30sec call? I gotta check if Optus does that.. geez, I wish phone companies would give good/cheap rates for once!

Ugh

(Jac) Man, that IS annoying! Change your phone services maybe? Lodge a complaint? Call or email the ‘biggest boss’ out there that you’ve access to, and make a good explanation. At least demand some kinda apology for the mess, you know.

But if you want to forget about it, then just take it as donating money – hoping that somehow, it’ll benefit someone in need…? =)

Re: Ugh

The phone cable for the whole building is Telstra, so I have no choice ;( *lol* I guess I’ll take it as donating money to greedy people? Grrr!

try iprimus?
i’m with them, although they aren’t all good, but i think they seem better than telstra from what i see. you can request for a list of calls you make, though not local calls. but international calls, and mobile calls are listed.

Iprimus works out more expensive than Telstra πŸ™ Their rental is $23-something but Telstra is $17-something.. and I make only a handful of calls a month. Ugh! I think I just won’t have a home phone.. it’s just not worth the $$ :T

oops, i forgot, you’re living alone. ‘cos i’m sharing with 3 ppl, and bundled with the iprimus internet. it sums up to be more worthwhile.
i think you could do without the phone line actually! and get cable internet. πŸ˜€

Wow, 4 people in a house? Do you guys all get along? But bills must be really cheap then ‘cos you get to split it all πŸ™‚

NOooo cable internet for me – it’s $50/month and there’s still startup costs and all that.. so I don’t want it, especially since there’s internet at work!

Don’t worry about the lack of phone line… it’s standard for all places. The Telstra problem, on the other hand…

The annoying thing is that if I pay the $200, the tenant after me (and every tenant after that) gets it for free. Only reason I’m paying is ‘cos I’m the first tenant and the landlord is being shifty and not setting the line up. I feel silly paying so much to benefit the landlord, so I refuse to ;(

Yikes i would definitely sign up with a different telephone company in your new place, one that provides itemised bills for reference.

I don’t think I can πŸ™ The cable within our building is Telstra! They’re providing us with an itemised bill, but you have to request for it and it takes 10 days… grrrrrr..

No kidding ;( They were so nonchalent about the fact that I had to pay up to $200 too, acting like it was a common occurence and everyone did it!
