I think a lot of “super top marks” people tend to be lacking in one area which is very important, common sense! So sometimes they are very clever but come accross as not as clever in an interview as they are just not that way inclined. Obviously the best girl got the job, best wishes for your first day and have a great time!

Yay for me having common sense then! πŸ˜€ I did get along really well with the 3 interviewers though, so I guess that helped.. I start tomorrow, ahhhhh!!

Congratulations Bev!!!! There was never a doubt! You’ve got the skills and the personality, I’m with opalline on that – Top Marks aren’t everything and thank goodness Microsoft realise that!!

BerryD =:)

Aww thanks so much! I’m really grateful that my boss didn’t just go “Nup, I want the person with the top grade and that’s IT”.. I’m just really lucky πŸ™‚

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! I’m sure you blew them away with your awesome bubbly personality and enthusiasm. You know, sometimes, Mr. Top-Marks is just so bland and icky that although he does well in school/athletics/music/whatever, he might have trouble working as part of a team. Especially nowadays when employers really look for people who can connect well to other people. So again, CONGRATS!! Nothing like being hired by Microsoft to chase away any last bits of that blue funk, huh?
*giggles at terminology*

Heh.. I dunno.. since they kept telling me they were looking for people that were high flyers in pretty much everything! But oh well, I’m not going to try and wonder why they pick me in case they change their minds πŸ˜›

Re: congratulations!!!

It’s in the platforms and operations department, from what I’m told. So working with the production team and fiddling around with that kind of stuff. I don’t absolutely know exactly what I’ll be doing… guess I”ll find out next week!

Re: Wow!!!

My “celebrating” consists of staying home and doing NOTHING at all.. going to make the most out of my free time while I still have it πŸ˜›

Thaaank you! I’m really excited about mon.. I get to go behind the high security doors and see what Microsoft is all about. Ooooooo πŸ˜›

Hah…too bad you won’t be able to tell us cuz of trade secrets and that contract you’ll have to sign…DARN πŸ˜› I wanna see too…!

*jumps up and down *
veeeery excited here!! πŸ˜› I think it’ll take me a good week to calm myself the hell down (;p;(

WOW CONGRATS, Bev! Have a glass of champagne, you deserve it! ^_^ Out of curiousity, how much did they offer you (annually)? I’m going to graduate soon and I’m currently doing some research on fresh graduates’ starting salaries. Thanks!

Erin

Thanks Erin!! I’m baking cupcakes the celebrate.. heh, I sound SO old saying that πŸ˜‰ Um.. I think I better not disclose my pay though, it feels a bit weird saying it publicly?! But it’s standard pay for fresh graduates in the IT industry, basically πŸ™‚

That’s awesome! Congratulations because you deserve it!

How long is your white jacket/suit? I just bought a white brushed cotton coat a couple of days ago and I’m planning to wear it to the first day of school (3rd year of university). I think a white jacket is very eye catching.

Thanks!

My skirt is about knee length.. the jacket is fitted and falls to my hips. It’s really nice and yeah, white definitely is the way to go. I refuse to wear black because everyone else does and you simply don’t stand out if you wear plain’ ol black :T But white is fresh and eye-catching!

Wow Beverly! That’s really impressive =)) Congratulations.

I wish I could say I’d worked for CSIRO and Microsoft, but I haven’t even had a job before =/

6 months ago I didn’t have CSIRO *or* Microsoft either.. so you have no idea how quickly things change sometimes πŸ™‚ A year from now you’ll probably be happily working!
