oh wow that WOULD be impressive if you got the Microsoft job! I’m sure you will too! You are so lucky gal, and that would be a very impressive addition to your resume!
Congrats on your 3 years anniversary!

it DOES feel pretty great 😀 But I don’t want to be TOO happy yet, cos it’s not like I got the job yet!

Heh, no way am I going to pass over a Microsoft job! Even if I don’t like it I’ll just stick with it because it’ll look good on my resume.. and I’ve always wanted to know what it would be like to work in a massive IT corporation like that.
posted on August 13, 2003 at 9:46 pm
Congrats, Bev! 😀 Very happy for you! As for smartness… Much of it is how you fare in the interview and how well the company feels you match their work ethic and atmosphere, and when it comes to the social aspects, you seem to have it made! 🙂 Well done!
posted on August 15, 2003 at 5:26 am
Hehe I hope you’re right! Or maybe they just need a certain number of female in the IT department and I’m a token female person 😛
posted on August 24, 2003 at 11:38 pm
Hehehe… token. Actually, Australia’s Equal-Opportunity Employment regulations state that a workplace has to be at least 25% female! I think, anyway. Or maybe it’s the number of ppl who are interviewed. But I doubt that’s the case. My impression is Australia is the most tolerant, open-minded, equal-opportunity country in the world. 🙂 I hope so, anyway!!!
But then, the dept I work in is just 25% female, too… Hmm… ;P Good luck getting the job!
posted on August 26, 2003 at 3:20 am
Heh yeah, I did hear something about a % of workers HAVING to be female. In my course, only 20-25% are female so I guess I have a pretty good chance overall, thanks to my gender!!

Hi Bev, nice to “see” you back again 🙂 Congrats on graduating, your anniversary and being asked to apply to MS! That must make you feel great about yourself!
Thanks 🙂 All that *did* help cos the past month or so has been just awful :T
posted on August 14, 2003 at 2:16 am
you lucky girl! so your PR stuff is all settled? i’m still waiting to hear back from them. i think they have a massive amount of applications to process so it’s taking a while. bleah!
anyway good to have you back and i’m glad everything worked out for you! 🙂
posted on August 15, 2003 at 5:27 am
Yeah! Just about to send off the temp PR form that grants me bacially PR rights (ie. unlimited working hrs) until the real PR gets granted.
I apply to the ACS just before I apply for temp PR and just sent a copy of the ACS application along with the temp PR application and that’s all they need. It’s all a really tight schedule cos my visa expires end of the month, but the Immigration people said I can fit it all in on time *whew*
Are you on a temp PR yet or waiting for one or..?
posted on August 15, 2003 at 5:41 am
oh i’m on my bridging visa now. is that the same as a temp PR? coz i am allowed to work full time but they don’t actually stamp anything in my passport and i’m not supposed to leave australia unless i apply for another visa. i’ve been a little lazy so far looking for a job though. :Þ
posted on August 15, 2003 at 9:27 pm
Uhm.. yeah I think it’s the same – it lasts for 6 months right? And yeah, you can work full-time, which is cool cos if you get a full-time job, you can start working! How long did it take for you to get the bridging one after applying for it? I’m hoping a week or two *crosses fingers*
posted on August 15, 2003 at 9:30 pm
they don’t actually send you the bridging visa. but once they’ve confirmed with you that they received your application, you’re fine. they’ll send you a letter. 🙂
posted on August 15, 2003 at 9:53 pm
Oh!! So the bridging visa is just a letter or something? And then when you get proper PR they’ll send it to you? Weird.. Ah well, as long as I get it 😉
posted on August 15, 2003 at 10:01 pm
the letter i received says that they have a huge volume of application to be processed at the moment, so confirmation of a bridging visa will be delayed. but according to my lawyer once they receive your application you should be fine. 🙂
posted on August 16, 2003 at 3:13 am
Oh cool, that’s a relief! Man I can’t wait to get my bridging/temp visa – Once I do I can relax fully..
Atm I’m waiting for my Uni to give me my letter of completion and official transcript.. which I”ll get next week. Then I’ll apply to ACS and for temp PR simultaneously!

Show Off!!!!!! :p

*pinches* are you saying you aren’t happy for me? 😛
Nah, if all that hadn’t happened, I would still be grumpy as hell and wallowing in my own self-pity, so I guess it’s good timing.. haven’t “got Microsoft” though, not counting my chickens before they’re hatched ‘cos I’m sure lots of people want the job and it’s a bit mad to assume I’ll be chosen over a few hundred people, y’know? But just having the offer makes me feel good, so I don’t care 😛

Nice to see you back! I was starting to get worried! Hope that MS job works out well for you. Don’t let ’em get you into anything illegal, now! ; )
Yeah.. I hope SO bad I get the Microsoft job.. and I promise I won’t start hacking Windows or anything 😉

Hey Bev! Congrats on graduating! You don’t think you’re THAT smart? I think you ARE! I bet you never got a single PASS and CREDIT in your entire Uni life hehehehehehehehhehehehehe
GOOD LUCK GIRL!

Hahaha… wishful thinking! But nah, out of everyone in my course I’m sitting around the average, I just got really lucky with CSIRO and *maybe* Microsoft!
