# of roses

Hello,

About the meaning of the number of roses … I know that 3 roses means “I love you”, but I’m not sure about 12. I think it’s “going steady”. But even if you did get 12, it’s kind of cool to say “I received a dozen roses” πŸ™‚

hey bev,
congrats on your appearance in cleo! i haven’t bought this month’s issue yet so i didn’t know u were in it until i read this..i’ve gotta show it to my cousin when i get it hehe

Hey Bev,

Have you ever heard of an ABC (as in Australian Born Chinese) being called ‘A Banana’?

Yellow on the outside, white on the inside….

And an Oriental – Oriental being called a ‘Mango’ – Yellow on the outside, yellow on the inside

Well, here’s some more…..

What do you call a Caucasian guy going out with an Oriental girl?

An Egg…..White on the outside, yellow on the inside…..

I guess this is what Chris would be…..hehehehe

I have one for a Caucasian girl going out with an Oriental guy, it is a bit crude but funny (so I’ll hold back)

Enjoy!

Robbie

Actually, oriental would be more apt to describe rugs, or items pertaining to being found in the Orient. I think it’s more appropriate to use “Asian.”

Just a thought.

I personally prefer to use the term “Asian” but in some parts of the world, like the U.K. they refer to Indians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans (people of the sub-continent) as “Asian”….hence the term oriental was used….

Heh! That was the first thing that came to my mind too.. but then again, I guess the word “oriental” isn’t really used in Australia, it’s more “Asian”. Incidentally, in Singapore I’m referred to as “Chinese” which is even more specific ‘cos there are Malays, Indonesians, Indians, etc and I suppose a more specific term is needed. Food for thought huh? πŸ™‚

What do you mean by Valentines day is a bit too comercialised for your liking? Why do you participate in it then????

Oh, basically all the really cheesy stuffed toys and balloons that are sold *everywhere*, that’s why we prefer having a simple dinner. I like us expressing tons of love every day and buying presents for each other when the urge strikes, rather than allocating one day of the year for that. Every day is like Valentines Day for us anyway, so I guess that’s why we’re not too concerned with going all-out and buying lots of gifts and celebrating it lots – it was basically just another normal dinner date for us.

There are SO MANY websites out there that offer promotional codes. If you search really well, you can find 20-50% off your entire order. I enjoy shopping at sephora, kenneth cole, banana republic, gap, delias, etc. If I see a lot of things I like, I always go to wisekat.com, dealcatcher.com, fatbargains.com, etc to find a coupon for it. Most sites you can find a free shipping coupon for. That’s usually a big savings right there. If anyone knows of any other really good sites, please post a comment. Thanks!

i don’t know if you’ll come back and read this, but the message board that beverly and i both join has some lovely people who tell us of the current promotional codes for free shipping, GWPs etc πŸ™‚ eh, beverly? so don’t worry, i’m sure beverly is quite the pro shopper πŸ˜‰
